One thing that drives me crazy is how we can't actually name the people that are problems. Like, let's have a hypothetical person, say, being a stalker and harassing other players. It boggles my mind that if the one being stalked actually names that person on the boards (so the rest of us can have a clue what the problem is), the mods will shut down the thread or remove the posts because you can't actually put a name out there. So we end up doing this stupid thing where we basically spell out everything this person does and the only way anyone can know who it is that's being talked about is via some PM, which to me is just juvenile.

I want to be able to say: "Look, Bob is stalking me. Here's what Bob has done to lead me to this conclusion. Has anyone else experienced this?"

It's direct, there is no ambiguity about who/what the complaint is about.

I'm not really articulating this well, and I'm not saying we should call people out for minor stuff, but the big stuff, when there's truly problem players, I think we should be able to call them out publicly so everyone knows. I think sometimes mods get too caught up and end up protecting the bad people and sheltering them (thus encouraging them to continue bad behavior since there's still an element of secrecy since no one can actually call them out) and alienating the good people who are getting treated poorly and become even bigger targets because you can't hide who you are when finally coming out to complain about the bad players.

This is something that's inherent in RP style boards, especially those run by people that used to host/supervise AOL RP rooms. I know that on other gaming boards, like my EQ server board, we're flat out blunt and say exactly who the problem is (e.g., "Bob ninja looted on our raid, be forewarned that you shouldn't invite him to your raid") so everyone else knows ("yeah, he ninja'd our group" or "really? he's always well behaved in our raids")and/or Bob can say, "wow, they're talking about me but that's not how it went" and then can defend himself. If the same thing happened in the RP boards, we'd have to say something shifty like "I'm really tired of certain people ninja looting on my raids." Try that crap on a MMORPG board and everyone would immediately reply "Who the F*** are you talking about? If you can't tell us who you are talking about, shut up."

Anyway, the point of this that I'm not being very articulate about is that it's refreshing that I actually know who you are talking about and even though I don't play over at the RDI much, I know exactly where you are coming from. Not saying I agree or disagree but I can totally understand why you feel the way you do and I'm able to file away your experience so when I do get more familiarity I have a clue about how things are/perceived to be.
