Stuff!

I finally finished The Undomestic Goddess. Frankly, if I had been the heroine, I would have sued the law firm and won. You'd have to read the story to get that, but all in all it was a good read. I now have "Remember Me?" by Sophie Kinsella running in the audio.

While on the usually weekend jaunt, I saw the third book in the Appaloosa trilogy, Brimstone was on the shelves. Going to wait on that, though. I still have a pile to look through.

I realized while running through some files that I REALLY need to do a back up to DVD because shit happens.

There's a lot to do around here and I'm just procrastinating. It's a holiday weekend.

Monday ... and what all do I need to do?? Lots of things, but I'm not going to accomplish anything, but reading, I think. This is not a bad thing!

Liz made my day! Her new phone does pictures and video! I now have two of my grandbabies on video! Some days, I love modern technology! :)

April 14, 2009

This is not the best of days. I'm going through the motions of laundry, picking up, and what have you despite the fact that I'm indifferent to what the house looks like right now as well as a few other things. I feel quite numb and sad.

The hardest part, I think, will be over tonight. I'll call my daughter after supper, if any of us can eat, and tell her what is probably going to happen tomorrow morning. Silly as it might seem to some, I want to give her one more chance to share a moment with what was once her dog.

Shottie is not doing well. The medicine they gave him helped and yet it didn't. He seemed to be getting better until today. He hasn't eaten much in the last week or so and has been drinking a lot of water. The latter is normal this time of year, but it's like he's trying to flush his system. He seemed to be getting along better, was even bouncing about.

I let him out today to go do his thing, waited a bit and couldn't see him. My first thought was hopeful ... that he had made his way over to the side of the house where he likes resting, but when I went out to look, there was no dog. Had Tom look on the other side where I have trouble walking. The dog was out behind the game building. He was alert and seemed alright. BUT ... when he came inside, he was dragging one of his back legs. The joint isn't working like it should be. At best, this is an injury that needs attention, at worst, his body is giving up and it's time to say our goodbyes.

I made an appointment for tomorrow morning. The odds are we will be coming home without him.

This post will become public after Liz is told. I don't want someone to tell her "I saw it on the net," before she hears it from us.

18 Feb 2009 (backdated)

2:17 PM

I hate waiting. Got here early so Tom could get to class on time. Class begins at 1:30 and only ten minutes between. This is pretty twisted, I tell you. Accommodate one of them and the other gets bent out of shape! Actually, Tom was fine, I suppose. I'm just annoyed at having to be here from 1:30PM - 4:30PM

I must admit that it's pretty cool to see one of the Army transport planes taking off.

I brought a book and my notebook. Also brought a small USB stick, my GB one seems to have disappeared. Annoying! I suppose it will turn up when I'm cleaning unless it accidentally got dumped in the trash.

Discovered that I have stuff that should have been transferred to LJ from 2007! Another thing for the clean up bin!

Found a carryon bag that Jessica gave to Tom. Using that instead of my normal bag as it has wheels. Much easier to handle. Also got a nice short cane, it should be easier to handle than my longer one. Decorative paint got peeled off a bit, but Tom can fix that and the cane was less than five bucks, so, that's not so bad.

I think if ticket prices are still this lower come summer, I'll visit my folks and fly into Avoca airport. Car rental would not be extremely expensive then either.

3:13 PM

It's really weird being the only person in a waiting area for a flight out! That and the TSA people keep looking at me funny!

Some part of me wishes I had a laptop for the waiting and the flight. The rest is saying, "Vacation from everything at home, dope!"

Around Christmas time, I think, airlines starting charging extra for checked baggage. Talk about inviting trouble! I suppose, though, that encourages people to carry less and pack lighter. Truth be told, I could easily pack for a weekend with this carry on, possibly, a week. Have to use the backpacking techniques.

3:42PM

Other people arriving.

I'm hoping to get that buggy ride around the historic district and have a girls' day or night out with Liz. Would like to go to the big flea market. Kevin wants to take the kids to the Six Flags in Georgia. I wonder how he will cope with a toddler and preschooler for 4 hours in a car.

3:52PM

I think they are now unlocking what will be my flight.

Twenty-five years ago...

there was a snowstorm in Colorado Springs. I remember it very well since I was on my way to the hospital around 9PM on Dec. 23.

By 5 AM, we heard the sounds of things we both found joy and sadness in.  While I walked off my labor in the hallways of the old Fort Carson hospital (picture on the left), I overheard the nurses discussing one of the recent births, a stillbirth. They pondered why a mother who had only one living child after six pregnancies would keep trying. All I could think of was ... what a horrible way to remember what should be a season of happiness and joy, the death of a child. One of the nurses informed me that my baby would have the same birthday as her father, Christmas Eve.

Kevin had done twenty four hours of CQ (Charge of Quarters) duty the day before and kept nodding off. I told him to go stretch out on the couch in the waiting room and I'd have the nurse come and get him when I was ready to go into the delivery room. When that time came, the nurse came back in with a smile on her face. She said that she found him on the floor and when she asked why he wasn't on the couch, he told her that it was easier to stay on the floor since he kept rolling off the couch!

Elizabeth Ann came into our lives on 24 December 1983 at 04:44 AM MST. She wrapped her small fist around her father's finger and was daddy's little girl from that moment on. Best Christmas gift ever. She endures teasing about being brought by Santa instead of a stork.

To those of you celebrating Christmas, I wish you and yours the best of the season. Good health and happiness to you all.

27 November 2008 (Thanksgiving)

Winter is coming, but I'm already looking forward to next spring. Sounds goofy, I suppose. However, I can't remember finding so much joy in something as simple as opening the back door in years! ZOMG ... there were stars out there!! At some point between 7:30 and 10 PM, the view of Canis Minor from my patio is spectacular!

I managed to get all but one thing done on my list that I had planned for Wednesday. When we were coming back from Wal-mart, the light was off in the sign for Goodwill, so I missed the turn off into their parking lot.

I still have my scrapbook box to look through and sort, but other than that and the laundry that needs to put away in there, it's done. I figure that box is a several hours job. However, considering my cluttering packratting tendencies, two garbage bags of clothes that no longer fit and a bag of about two dozen books for donation and about four bags of trash cleared out of there is a big step forward! Mr. Pessimist, of course, grumbled at my moment of triumph and said, "You'll just find other things to put in there."

I did a few minor repairs on clothes that I wanted to keep. The real fun is waiting. I have several sweaters that have small holes in them. Much to my annoyance one of them was purchased in the last couple of months in preparation for the cooler weather. My best guess is that they got caught in my dresser drawers in some manner and tugged. But, as I said, the fun is waiting. I have a bunch of beads (as previously noted in other posts) and am going to try to come up with some sort of design to try to hide tiny holes. A butterfly is fairly easy to make.

The only thing I don't fit in that's not being donated is a black suit. I'm sending that to Liz.

I'm still reading Dragonfly in Amber, but at the rate I'm going, I should be done by Christmas. And I'm also reading In Praise of the Crone by Dorothy Morrison.

My weekend project is that box. Maybe the beading, I dunno. Shopping for Friday. Woot!

Tuesday on the Treadmill

I'm reminded of a story I read in a cross-stitch forum when a little girl asked her mother when she was going to work on the various projects that were in some state of completion. When her mother answered that she'd get to them "Some day," the girl said, "Someday is going to be very busy. " Lately, I feel like that a lot.

Monday, Liz called and we talked for a bit. She said she wanted to check in. While I was talking to her, I realized that I hadn't talked to my folks in a while, so I called them. I got carried away, time got away from me, and my plans to make a meat pie for dinner went out the window. However, hamburgers and fries went over well.  I still need to use use the scallions and green onions.

Today's To Do List
General pick up
Clean the kitchen (dump the fridge)
Tuesday is trash and recycle day (Make sure both get to the curb)
Bathe dog
Cashew Chicken and rice for dinner

Catch up on some LJ comment replies and, gads, I STILL have a post for LT lurking in my mail to edit! Hopefully, I'll be RPing on Tuesday night!

Wednesday, I think will be clean up the desk and clear out the remaining bills for the month.

Since Tom moved a bunch of stuff out to the game room, I can get to the next step in the operation for the garage, the mini cabinet. That could turn into a trip to Wonderland. It's funny how the mind works at times. I look at a screw off bottle cap and sometimes think, a cook pot for the dollhouse. The old kind, that you need a bottle open on, remind me of metal pie plates. Once that cabinet is done, (I'd like to get it done by Saturday) I can fold the table back up and it will leave more clean more space in the middle. One of these days (see.... there's the "someday" mentality rearing its head!) I need to remember to take the plastic bags that have come from grocery shopping trips over to the market to the recycling bins. Need to clean off the old table out there as well; there's a lot of clutter on it. Need to hang up the new ladder, too.

Want to try to finish bagging and tagging Oct. 2005 before the end of the month.

Off to get things done!

An Ordinary Day. (photo)

Heard from Liz. Bless her, she always calls for our birthdays.

Listening to Disc 10 of The Historian. I have until the 17th to finish all my library materials. I also have Grave Secrets still in progress.

The house is not in too bad a shape. My office, as always, is organized clutter. One of these days I want a window seat with a storage section.

Still working on the photo CDs. Sent one to my brother-in-law. Going to attempt to make a DVD with Nero or a Video CD.

Yes, It's a Dress! (Photo)

I am trying to relax, but it's just not happening. Despite being physically tired, my mind is going bonkers.Nothing new, we know this.

Bergamot incense is delightful. Well, at least it is to my nose!

So, yeah, I slept. I still feel groggy though. I guess that's just how things are.

News on the Net )

I got my dress. Quite frankly, it took longer to find the shop than to pick the dress! Mapquest should have said SOMETHING about the bridge labeled "Capitol of Texas Highway,"  it would have been very helpful!

A bit of fun and insanity..

I'm looking forward to the end of the month when it will be cool enough to have the windows open and turn off the AC. Yes, we are still running AC here.

Question for the masses, what temperature is it before you consider it to be cold?

I need to get a dress for Liz's wedding. Her colors are apple (that's what the bridal shop calls it) and white. So why are all the mother of the bride dresses that I'd consider wearing in wine or some other color? For instance, I'm about 5 ft 2 and slightly overweight. I could get away with this and I like it. These are the bridesmaids' dresses in apple. This is an MoB dress in apple, now, is it me or does that look like a completely different color than the bridesmaid dresses? Could be the fabric, could be the lighting. Here's one I might be able to get away with.

Why am I being picky? Well, I can go halter style, but I refuse to have the scars on my knee in view. Hardest part is going to be picking shoes. If I get anything but a slip on, I'll need help to put on one shoe. Bad hip, bad knee, can't reach. My family is used to that, it's not a huge deal. It's the comfort factor that matters. I could wait until I get there to pick the dress, but that would be cutting it close, especially if it needs to be altered.

What Happened on Sunday...

I finished listening to Deadly Decisions by Kathy Reichs. Been getting into that author's books since I started watching Bones.

I've started The Red Hat Club by Haywood Smith. So far, it's good. Reminding me of the YaYa Sisterhood a bit. Example of a silly from it:

A Buckhead housewife and her husband were having an argument about sex.

"You never tell me when you're having an orgasm," the guy yelled.

"How can I?" She yelled back. "You're never here!"

Allllllllllllllllllllllrighty then.. this should be good!

Finally watched The Weatherman. It was ok.

Every time I upgrade my video drivers I have to backtrack to the originals and then redo the new ones. Not sure why, but it's like some of the codecs go stupid. However, I can watch DVDs on my computer again.

Sunday was the usual drill with the gamers out back. Pizza was the fare of the day.

I finished the corsages for the wedding. Next thing on the agenda is printing the tags for the favor bags. I never thought about it, but I need to ask her about music for dancing. We have a portable CD player and speakers we can bring if we need to.

Enjoyed a couple of conversations with good friends.

Hogwart's House sorting quiz!

Which Hogwarts house will you be sorted into?

Your in-depth results are:

Gryffindor - 13
Ravenclaw - 11
Hufflepuff - 10
Slytherin - 8

Tuesdays' Tidings

So, I'm attempting to gather a few notes on recent story projects and clear them out of my head. I really should be getting my house picked up, but it's a blah day.

Monday, as usual, was Kevin's day off, so we caught up on a few things. Bank then post office to take care of business. We got the bulbs for his tail light and over his license plate. Hit Book Stan, where he bought comics, ordered books, and I asked about Changeling: The Lost. Dinner was Bennigan's mix and match, we shared. We hit Target and Toys R Us to look about. Hobby Lobby was my choice for the day. Picked up supplies to make a photo album/memory book.

We still need to get a short Phillips head. I need one more basket and basket straw. I have straw for Easter baskets somewhere, but that would probably look tacky. Edit: forget screwdriver, Kevin borrowed one.

He cut part of the lawn before we went out. He was too tired for the rest. I'm thinking... it's early noon in full summer sun in TX, well, of course, he's going to get tired.

Wednesday afternoon, I have some plans with my son. He wants a fedora to go with his blue suit. It will look sharp at Liz's wedding.

Saturday Was a Busy Day

Did the usual pick up of the house and such. Quick Hamburger Helper dinner.

Worked in the yard, got what I planned to do all finished. Tom did about four sections between the fences. He got the lava rock done. We need more. Probably 6 bags or so. Got the plants all watered.

I figured out the greenery out for the corsages, but I need to dig up silk ribbon. The one I picked frays too easily. I found 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide in my trims box. Will see how they turn out and take pictures.

In other news.... (Backdated)

I finished the boutonnières, they are pictured here. I think they came out nicely.

2:21 PM

It's pouring out there. Wouldn't you know it, the minute I have my boxes ready to head for the post office, it started up.  There's one box of wedding stuff and another box heading off to Indiana. As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, "It's always something."

2:31

Rain stopped.. time to run!

5:09 PM

Shopping done, boxes mailed.

This is getting weirder and weirder:
There is apt to be a prevailing pessimism today that you should try to steer clear of, CATHY. Don't get sucked into other people's drama. You have your own ongoing saga to worry about. Instead of pessimism, view these negative thoughts and feelings as constructive criticism. You will find that your power of concentration is much stronger than usual and you can be very efficient in your actions.

That's the third or fourth horoscope that caused the infamous record scratch noise in my head.

Tuesday.

Last night the power went out two or three times. Talk about frustrating. I gave up on my Monday RP because I was already feeling crappy and the power failures just added to the head spinning. Ugh.

I still feel like bleh or as some would say.. Blecky or is that blucky? Either way, I feel like shit. You don't want the particulars on that.

6 PM

I feel a bit better, thank heavens for good herbs. No, not illegal ones. Laundry is in gear, master bedroom and bath are cleaned up. Living room is picked up. Need to do kitchen, dining room, and office. Need to get spousal unit onto cat detail. I do not clean litter boxes. I clean stinky dog. Son needs to do his room and bath.

Have to get to the library and return a pile of things. In the meantime, I have bought enough audiobooks, movies, and books over the years to keep me busy.

I picked up the DVD of Celtic Woman. These women have amazing voices, but honestly, it's the violin/fiddler player that has me enthralled. She gets so into the music and is all over the stage, that energy just seems to surge into the singers as well as the audience.

Not getting into the yard yet again, wet yard.

6:56 PM

Office and dining room done. On short break before doing the rest.

8:44 PM

House cleared up... dinner is all that's left to do then, of course, clean up the dishes.
Been drizzling on and off, just started to pour out there.

So... follow behind the cut for today's things that makes me go hmm...

June is for...

All kinds of things and kind things they are indeed!

First of all, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ldygwynedd for the very cool post card from Alaska! :)

I got a big surprise when I opened my e-mail and learned that [livejournal.com profile] ladybast has gifted me with paid time on my LJ! Thank you much, Suze! ::loves::

Yet another surprise from [livejournal.com profile] mummm. She made icons of the roses picture from my yard! You can see one here on this post!

I should have posted a link to this picture of Rhi by [livejournal.com profile] rachaelwynter. I remember being totally floored when I saw it! So floored that I remember sending friends to the page going.. lookitlookit!! Those that remember or know who Collie is will understand when I say Rhi is her daughter.

Thank you, ladies! :)

Restless Night...

I am still getting holiday projects in order. Four projects to do today (Pillow, blanket, locket, and gift box) and hopefully get three large boxes in the mail by Tuesday.

Can't find the tracking receipt for the pictures we sent out to Kevin's mother. Yes.. he sent her picture of the kids and grandkids. It's around somewhere.

I have a letter, some in depth thoughts, a story or two to write. Should be interesting.

Can't sleep, so I write... I suppose babble is a better word for this.

Once Liz's family's things are gone into the mail, I get Jessica's in gear. Some of those things have been purchased, but the handmade things, like the bracelet, need to be done. So.... if you see me on AIM, contact info is open to friends on my profile, feel free to sling an IM, but be warned that I might be slow in answering. Those of you that have done stitchery or any kind of jewelry know that some techniques are tedious.

It's interesting how we change and so do the people around us. So.. things have changed in a particular relationship for the better. Chances are being taken.

For the interested parties, my TDL thing is done for the week, I should be able to RP on Sunday night. RRT is open 10-2 ET unless something goes weird again.

And on the home front... am I the only one who thinks their spouse can sometimes be as clueless as a bunch of the stereotypical Valley Girls that fluff their hair and say... "Like ok... like fer sure... like... uh.... like... I fergot cause I'm an airhead?" Just once I wish Kevin would grasp the concept the rude words are going to get him whacked upside the head. It's called provocation, Brainiac, and it's been standing up in court for years.

So... now I can sleep.
