Safely settled into my chair to write. I have some iced tea and my snuggly shawl. The house is quiet for the moment. ::knocks wood:: Four ideas and which to run with first? That's the question!

Today was productive. Got several things done. Recently watched Secret Yellowstone and Beyond the Movie - Troy, both National Geographic productions. I enjoyed watching NG programs as a kid. Was amazed to learn that there two million acres to Yellowstone and it has at least 300 waterfalls. There are seven known wolf packs that live in Yellowstone. Wolves were reintroduced to the area in 1995.

I finally finished the hall closet. Ended up using those vacuum storage bags. HOLY MOLY... they squashed my big comforter almost flat! I need to get a few more of those!

Thursday will be clean the front yard day, I think. Maybe part of it Thursday and part Friday. We'll see what the weather looks like.

Next week the game plan is getting car in for repairs and getting Tom's closet cleaned out.

June 2 is the release date for Sims 3, I've been debating on this a long time. I think I'm going to get the game after all. Especially since they will be using a packaging system again. It used to bug me to no end when DLing things for the first Sims game and have to hunt down the wallpaper, furniture, etc. to get the houses to look like the pictures.

Anywho ... off to write, I hope.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
Watched The Barefoot Contessa. The part of the movie is risque for 1954, but Humphrey Bogart and Ava Gardner are awesome. Also watched King Tutankhamun - The Mystery Unsealed. Who knows, maybe I'll learn something from the bunch of mostly educational DVDs I snagged at the library.

I have bits and pieces rumbling in my head for a Kirin story.

Still cleaning out my linen/hall closet. There are a bunch of kiddie/girlish/flowered twin bed sheets in there. Maybe one day, they will get used again. Things like Rainbow Brite and 101 Dalmatians are in there. RB and some of the florals are duplicated because the girls shared a room and for much of it had bunk beds. I discovered some paint on one of the sheets, trying to figure that one out! Liz took the Care Bear sheets for her boys.

There's something very cathartic about taking things apart and rebuilding them. Or in this case, emptying them out and reorganizing them. Who knew a little closet could hold THAT much?? I seem to have a few pillowcases that have wandered off, but otherwise, things seem to be accounted for. I have the towels separated into keep and donate to the vet clinic. I saved some older ones for clean ups, but some of the ones with frayed edges are going on their way.

Found a plastic zippered bag that's meant for underbed storage. Putting my extra blankets in there. Nice thing about it is that it's squashable and will take up less space.

Did a library run and I restrained myself from adding more books to my "to read" pile. I did not, however, resist the DVD rack as I noted above.

I'm on chapter 23 of 26 ( p. 311 of 374) of The Undomestic Goddess.

-----

Night at the Museum II, freaking hilarious! :D

Not much else to say before the date changes, so ... that about covers it.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
Reading "The Undomestic Goddess" by Sophia Kinsella. Current movie is Emma. I have several movies and books from the library to view and read. I picked up "Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog . . . and Your Life" by Cesar Milan as we are considering getting another dog at some point in the future. Planning to do a library trip this week.

Much cleaning to do. Linen closet is my large project for this week. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to reorganize things.

The AC people are coming out Friday morning to clear out the pipes. The auxiliary line was dripping water, this is not good.

Wednesday, I need to get the last of the laundry done, clean the fridge, finish the rest of the stuff in the sinks, cat food corner, and Tom's bathroom and bedroom need to be picked up.

Thursday is library day. Need to pick up a few more storage boxes. Need to leave the stuff that blocks the attic steps on the couch or a chair before bed.

Friday is AC day and I hope to get the closet done. Might work on that over the weekend, though.

And that's about it.

A couple of hours ago, I was ready to hit the sack. Now, at 12:30 AM and after eating, I'm wide awake and ready to rumble. Well, not really rumble, but I have some things on my mind that I need to purge. Maybe purge is a poor choice of words because not all of it is bad.

Saturday evening, we took one of Kevin's co-workers, Shannon, out for her birthday. My husband can be a pain in the ass at times, but when he's of a mind to be, he is a kind person. Shannon is having a rough time of it and is looking after her grandmother. We took her to Nami (it's one of those Japanese Hibachi places) and had a fun time of it.

So, Monday I need to file and mail paperwork for SSDI, mail out the cable and car payments. General clean up. Laundry. This is a recycling week, so that needs to be done as well as get the trash out. Tom has his exams this week, so we are going to be doing yardwork at some point to get the weeds, etc. under control before

Have a couple of packages to mail by the end of the week. Postage is going up on May 11, I have things I should have mailed out ... like post cards.

10:57 PM

Got quite a bit done, but there's still a lot to be done. When isn't there? The day is about to close as in midnight is not long from now, so, I'll close this and restart later.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
I like to believe there's an afterlife. Some people believe that spirits walk among the living, some don't. I'm not trying to start a religious argument. The simple fact is that some people believe and others don't, I respect their right to do so. Monday morning I jolted awake from a dead sleep; it was pouring outside. So, I came out of the bedroom to get a drink. I wasn't feeling well and had been coughing, so I figured a drink and/or cough drop would help ease things so I could sleep. My nose twitched as something familiar hit it. Yup, the smell of wet dog. I'd like to put it down to that carpet near the front door, but the scent faded as quickly as it had caught my attention.

My son has been experiencing similar things. The other half, nope. Call us nuts, but if it's our imagination, it gives us comfort. If it's not and the place is now haunted, that's not really a bad thing for us. At least we know who it is, right?

Actress Beatrice Arthur, best known for her roles as Maude in Maude and Dorothy in Golden Girls, has passed away. She was 86. According to news articles, she passed away quietly with her family present. She had some form of cancer, but no details were disclosed.

Watched Australia and am reading Curious Customs by Tad Tuleja.

Plans for today:
Scrub down Tom's bathroom.
Not sure what dinner will be ... yet. Probably burgers or meatloaf to use up the hamburger in the fridge. Want to have dinner done and cleaned up before 7.
Have more laundry put away.
And RP in the evening.

Time to sleep.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
I have some projects I would like to do around the house as well as some writing. Have a lot of things backed up around here and need to get them done.

I think I figured out one of problems I've been having with RP, will get to that later. In fact, I think I figured out a couple of them.

Been trying to keep up with LJ, but for some reason, I've been skimming some entries. I think I need to get "real" glasses instead of using what my grandmothers would have called dime store reading glasses to solve this issue. Love the pictures that folks have been posting!

Newest catch phrase that applies to me of late... "I can't brain, I has the dumb!"

Need to get to the grocery store today. (Edit: went and returned by 6pm)

Turns out the major problem with the Buick was ::drumroll:: bad battery. I feel silly and relieved that it was something so simple. We know the car has other issues, but they don't cause it to not be drivable. Next car problem is the Explorer's brake line.

Have three unread books to return to the library on Tuesday. Need to get cracking! One is a kid's book and the second is large print. The third, I dunno if I can run through that one or not, but Resolution looks like an easy read. If you're on Facebook and want to track my eclectic reading habits, I use Visual Bookshelf. It's part of that Living Social thing.

So, Sunday: laundry and read; maybe RP in the evening or later at night.
Monday: more laundry and cleaning. Get the trash and recycling to the curb. Pay cable, pay car.
Tuesday: library. Wednesday: Pack gifts for the kids and get them mailed
Thursday: Mail tax payment
Friday: Take Explorer into the shop about the brake line. Maybe wait until the next paycheck for that... since we have the taxes and a car payment coming out, I dunno.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
Apparently my body decided to say, "Screw you" and words to that nature on since I got little done on my to do list for Tuesday. Anything that required leaving the house has been put off another day. However, after a fuss with my youngin, we discovered that there was another bottle of carpet cleaner in the laundry room cabinets. So, at least I got THAT done!

Tom came home from class, wasn't feeling up to par and went to nap. About 2 he came out of his room and said that we would need to reschedule the movie because he wasn't feeling well. I told him I'd wake him around 4 and that would still give us time get the other things done. About 3, I felt like crap and went to lay down. Next thing I knew... it was 5:51 PM. I was running around like a maniac trying to figure out how to get all this stuff done. The son is like... um... it's my WoW raid night, it's too late for me to go, now! Soooooo .. that's when the yelling started. It was defused pretty quickly though. We both felt like crap. He found the bottle of cleaner, fixed up the steamer/shampooer for the first run of the night and I was on my merry way.

I have a Bissell Proheat and it's a pretty awesome gizmo. Let me tell you, when you are cleaning the carpet and see blue getting sucked up and realized it's part of a long set in ink stain, that's a pretty durn good machine! The water I dumped from it was stinky (we're talking sewer, here) and gross! No wonder Himself's been getting sick. Ew.

I have a couple rants and stuff brewing. One for RP and one for ZOMG... is that a man thing??

So, for today.. not sure on the movie. Need to get air in the tires of the Honda. And if they lose air again by the next time I drive the car, I'm taking it over to the dealership to see WTF the issue is. Going to get the things on my shopping list taken care of.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
12:09 PM

Thirty minutes goes too quickly most of the time and others, it drags by. Having lunch then getting things done about the house. General pick up. Yard pick up. Bathroom ceilings and walls. And I want to have it all done by 5 PM! Hopefully, Ill be able to get enough done today that I feel like I accomplished something. I think I'm dreaming. ::nodnod:: Or maybe it's delusions of grandeur. I dunno.

4:47 PM

Eh... could have done more, but at least I feel like I accomplished something. I did laundry. Picked up trash in the yard. Cleaned up inside. Brushed and bathed the dog. The last is an experience in itself!

By 9:45 PM I had run a clean broom over the bathroom ceiling to knock down cobwebs, etc. I scrubbed and scraped half of the shower cabinet. There's a big difference in how it looks. I used lemon juice and water, so it smells pretty nice, too. Don't know of anything else green to use that would do the job well enough.

Anyway, my goal for Monday is to finish the back wall of the shower cabinet and do the medicine cabinet. I can only stay bent in a certain way for so long, so I have a back up plan.

I need to get to the post office before 3 PM to get an Express mail out to Himself. Also have some plastic bags to drop off for recycling and clothes to drop off for donation. Want to have dinner done and cleaned up by 7.

My scent for today is Rainkissed Leaves from Bath and Body Works.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
We did an Austin run to see how the new car would handle it. Shopped and got neat things at Half Price Books, Tandy Leather, Ginger's Needlearts and Framing, and Dragon's Lair. I haven't been to Ginger's or Tandy Leather in several years, the latter closes at 4 on Saturday.

I haven't done leatherwork in ages, but I think it's time to dust off and improve those skills. Picked up a package of leather dyes, a bottle of protective sealer and some Celtic stamp tools. Should prove to be a good way to pass some time outside in warmer weather. At Ginger's, I found a few things; a lovely Celtic design, but mostly glass beads and small skein of lovely metallic thread.

In the last few days, I got to chapter three of Dragonfly in Amber, page 317 of 947. Current audio book is Mallets Aforethought. Can we say punny title?

Sunday, I plan to do the following:
Hook mouse, keyboard, and monitor to Kevin's Gateway and peel files off the Zip disks. I hope that goes well as I want to get back to writing again. All the files are stored there. To order a USB one would cost about 150 bucks... um... no, I think I'll try another way, but if anyone has a zip drive that will read 100MB disks and can use a few, drop me a line.

Write more cards out and get them ready for Monday mailing.

Do a quick run about the house, Monday will be busy. Meatloaf and potatoes or crock pot stew for Monday's dinner, but heck if I know for the rest of the week!

More later... off to annoy my Sims.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
It's 4:07 and today's to do list has dwindled a bit, but not a whole lot. I'm taking a brief break after the hour or so of standing in line and hauling things over at the post office. Tom was very helpful in that venture.

Buy packing tape
Mail packages and cards that are ready to go

Fix lasagne or meatloaf for dinner (This is happening in about an hour. Edit: Done)
Test out new computer gadget (not yet)
Pay Sprint bill for son (edit: ready for mailing)
Drop note to MIL with Jessica's info (edit: ready for mailing)
Have Kevin sort the boxes of books under the bed so if he wants to dump any they can be dropped off at the nursing home with the goodies
Drop off book at library (Forgot that book to drop it off. Thankfully, it was renewed until the 29th. That will give me time to get a list together of the audio books, etc., that I'm interested in.)
More as I think of it!

I finished In Praise of the Crone. I learned much and had a lot of those "Duh, why didn't I think of that?" moments. Still reading Dragonfly in Amber; I'm on pg 188 of 947.

I have a laundry as well as other odds and ends to clear up before I reward myself with RP time later in the evening. Little clean ups all over the house.

Posting a picture of the most recent finished craft project very shortly!

More later!

And so...

Dec. 1st, 2008 09:48 pm

Sunday, I finished cleaning out and sorting what might best be called a memory box. Post cards, brochures from places I've been over the years, as well as other odds and ends. If you are in the same age group as me, you might recall Gulf gas stations had magazine called "The Wonderful World of Disney." I found mine buried in that box. So, that's another thing cleared up. Found all kinds of things like the reproduction of the front page of the newspaper that listed the dead at Little Big Horn, post cards from various places in the US. I'm fond of those souvenior post card booklets. Those are the ones that you tear out the card to mail and have a mini one for yourself. Somehow, I have two of those from Watkins Glen, NY. So that still leaves me with that one big box to look through, but still headed in the right direction. Next step is moving dressers, cleaning behind them, running the carpet cleaner under them and dumping what we no longer want and can't wear.

Monday was mostly a laundry day. It's 9:30 and except for a couple of things that won't be moving from the living room anytime soon, the house is in some semblance of order. I still have a load of clothes in the washer and another in the dryer. I have two sweaters to repair, will probably do one tonight. I used three sequins and three beads to fix the first one. Made it look like a tiny gold floral pin.

Tuesday. I need to pay the car insurance and cable bill, pick up a few odds and end (like dry dog food) and see about a wheelbarrow from Home Depot. Might pick up something fast for dinner. In house goals, maintain status quo and create no new messes. Need to read more of In Praise of the Crone as it's due on Thursday and I'm only about half way through. Could renew it while I'm out on Tuesday, that'd work.

I'm off to mess with my Sims for a while. I haven't had so much fun with the game in ages!
A funny! )

My hands are back to whatever normal is. I was able to go to the dentist on Wednesday without having to be turned away due to an allergic reaction.

I'm a little bit pleased with myself. And I can't believe that October is almost over already!!

I finished Voyager, I only started it a year ago! Now I need to backtrack and read Dragonfly in Amber. Don't ask!

I got a few small pieces of writing done. Nothing major, but I got into the heads of two of my characters.

Need to clean house, pay bills, and get a few things attended to over the weekend. I hope be getting a couple of household projects started this coming week. Started my holiday shopping. Need to mail out a few things.

Want to bag and tag the rest of the 2006 LJ entries by mid. Want to get a few logs edited and posted. Will do the LJ RP posting later.

Things I want to remember or pass along behind the cut!Read more... )

Saturday, we made a trip to Austin. (We go, maybe, twice a year anymore.) Dragon's Lair and Half Price Books were the main stops for the day. We came home with a shameless haul. My birthday isn't until next month, but I already got my gift from my husband. I've had my eye on the Chronicles of Narnia unabridged audio CDs for some time now, but they list at about 75.00. Half Price Books had them for 35.

Sunday is likely to be busy. The dog needs a bath as he's going to the vet on Monday. Nothing serious, an allergy shot. He does apparently have a touch of arthritis. In a nine year old dog, that's not all that rare. Monday, we also need to get Tom's school books squared away. His online classes begin at the end of the month.

Normally, I do my cleaning on Monday, but with the appointment scheduled, I might crank up Sims 2 in the afternoon and do the pick work during my loading times. Just basic stuff like laundry and dishes. Since we went out today, the yard was put on hold again. So, I might get that done after we get the dog home on Monday. Might have time for some of it after I get done inside. Have to wait until 4 PM or so when the sun is lower and the heat isn't so much.

Seems funny to be discussing heat when much of the US is getting colder and preparing for snow or, in at least one place, has already had it! I'm very much looking forward to the delivery and installation of our new back door. I think it will be nice to be able to sit out on that little cement slab that's supposed to be a patio and have natural light for reading and maybe needlework as well. I have a small folding table that can be hauled around easily. I've been discussing an awning or some other type of overhead cover for the patio with the other half. He wants one of those porch swings. I can deal with that! I still want overhead cover because the back of the house is in direct sunlight most of the day; in summer it gets very hot. This IS Texas after all.

So, it's been a rather busy weekend. Friday we saw Appaloosa. I enjoyed it a lot. Vigo Mortenson and Ed Harris was awesome, Rene Zellweger was ok, but she reminded me a lot of Shirley MacLaine in this picture.

Saturday, we ordered that door. Seems that the 30 inch door with the sidelights was doable, but it didn't come with the blinds. So, it's French doors. I want the mini blinds so we don't have to futz with curtains around the door. Also looked at a nice cabinet set for the bathroom. Need to to measure because once the outside trim is replaced, we are going to remodel the master bathroom. After living in a house almost 20 years, it needs a coat of paint, minor repairs before they become major ones and cosmetic repairs.

Went to Barnes and Noble. A set of animal oracle card fell off the shelf on me three times. I bought it along with two Berenstain Bear books for the kids.

Monday, I have plans with the youngin. Tom has an interview at Oak Express at 3, so he's going to drop me off at the new shopping center in Heights so I can look around in the new Bed, Bath and Beyond as well as the new Target. I found some odd and end things that will make nice gifts on their website not to mention that I want to have the proper hangers, etc. for cleaning out the closet.

This is close to what I want. The tall cabinets (Probably can only fit one in there) and medicine cabinet are right. After looking at the picture I realized that one has two sinks and the model I looked at has only one.

Two things I need to take care of at home on Monday. Order new checks and get the recyclables sorted and to the curb for pick up on Tuesday. Probably won't have time for much else after being out.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
I have this list of things I should do or said I'd do and never got around to it. I really should do that at some point. I should write that list!

Let's start with this. I should be cleaning my house and or shopping today, but I'm here am parked on my fanny. Simply put, I don't want to go over there alone. Not sure why, I just don't. Maybe, I need to ...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.... )
yellowrosetx: (Default)
Thursday, I went out to get some yardwork done and ended up with my weed whacker keeling over. That put a crimp in things. If the yard didn't slope like it does, I'd have ago at the lawnmower. However, I have visions of my uneven table like body

Friday, I sent Tom over with the car to have the emergency brake cable looked at. Needed a new master brake cylinder, oh yay, not. So, the car has not passed inspection, partly due to the failure of the garage to pay attention. They fixed the master cylinder, but still need to take care of the brake cable and do the inspection. So, back it goes on Tuesday when he works again and they are open. Meantime, I'm going to give Just Brakes a ring and see if they will take care of the problem again since they did the brake job and it may or may not still be covered under the warranty. The garage also recommended we have Sears check the belt that was put in when that Die Hard battery was installed. Squeaks a bit too much.

Two of the six characters that I want to write for have hushed for the moment. That still leaves four.

Need to do the grocery drill today. Buy a weed whacker and make phone calls. That's about it for now.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
Got over to CTC and took care of the tuition bill.

TO DO LIST

Cleaned up the master bedroom, but the master bath needs cleaning.
I still have laundry that needs to be put away
Chicken stir fry for dinner on Wednesday/ For Thursday, I picked up some lovely rib eyes.
I should get some yardwork done.
I want to get some writing done.
Need to set up plot outlines of some sort for what I want to write.

Need to order checks and pay the two bills on my desk by the end of the week.

Tuesday was fairly peaceful.
yellowrosetx: (Default)

I'm worn out from running about my house cleaning up and doing laundry. Gads ... laundry. Piles! Urgh.. where'd it come from? In fact, I'm STILL doing laundry at almost midnight. I'm beginning to wonder if it's breeding! Scary thought!

I was going to RP during Sasha's shift, but opted to check mail and veg for a while. I logged later on and yakked in IMs a bit, but mostly, I want to lay out an outline for some story pieces to get things moving again.

Tuesday's household foibles:
Clean bedroom and bath
MORE Laundry
Dinner duty (Thinking pot roast and potatoes, but might grab some oriental veggies at the store including snow peas)
Quick dinner means I can finish the front of the yard that I didn't get to when Kevin had his time off.
Top on the list is getting Tom's tuition paid.

I discovered that Firefox doesn't give back RAM that it sucked up until I close it. Odd.

Some funnies and other things behind the cut.

I'm feeling better, thank you to those that held my hand. :)

If you like Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy, they have a new fragrance called "Warm Milk and Honey." Also I have coupon (it needs to be printed) that was sent to me in e-mail for a free aromatherapy item (up to $13) with any purchase of $15 or more. 13 is the normal price of an aromatherapy shower gel. If you would like it forwarded please drop me a comment or e-mail at [email protected] and I'll pass it along. It expires 21 September.

I'd like to get some of that new Black Amethyst while they still have the sale buy one, get one 50% off and are still offering the lip gloss with it. Come to think of it.. that's more than enough cover the 15 dollar purchase to get the free aromatherapy.

Tuesday's plans:

Chicken for dinner
Finish the trim job in the front yard, weather permitting.
UHBS
RP in the evening

Writing and an LJ RP post.

As you might have guessed, the front yard is the first step when the weather starts cooling.

yellowrosetx: (Default)
So, today, well later today since it's about 2 AM, I go over with my youngin to get him registered for his second semester of college. His last three classes went well. I'm particularly pleased with his grade in English Comp, an A. Why does that make me happy? My son has always had a creative mind and has a wonderful way of expressing himself with the written word. Mostly, I'm overjoyed that in an age of UR, 2B, and other short cuts brought on by internet usage and text messaging that my son has a very good grasp of proper spelling and grammar.

On my list for today is a quick pick up of the house (since I cleaned up fairly well today).
More laundry. ~It's the job that neeeeeeeeeverrrrrrrr ends~
Post office run to drop off some bills and a package that needs mailing.
Do a drop off at the cleaners.
Clean up my desk area.
Pick up Rice-a-roni Asian style rice. That stuff plus almonds is excellent with stir-fry!

I tested out my leaf blower on the front entryway. Oh, yes... very nice! I can't wait for the weather to cool off so I can get in the yard and work again. Hells, I want that new back door!! Then I can get in and out without leaving the sliding door open and work out there as I please!. What idjot made those sliding doors without a decent handle on the outside, anyway?

I've been rediscovering a lot of old favorite things, especially comfort foods like Vegetarian Alphabet Soup! It brings back memories of winter days in my great grandmother's kitchen, she lived next door. In PA in the 1960's coal was still used in some kitchen stoves.

More later.

When I wrote later, I didn't mean a day later! Oy, it's Aug 27, 2008 at about 10 PM.

Made chicken stir fry for tonight's dinner. No complaints, not a single one. Not sure if Thursday's dinner will be sausage or pot roast.

Caught up my laundry. Finished a couple of pieces of writing. Started working on another.

Friday, we are suppose to check out the new Barnes & Noble and the Super Target near there. There's a Bed, Bath, and Beyond over in that shopping center, but I don't think I can get the boys to go in there. Friday, I should be able to pick up the new Sims 2 EP. So, if I'm not around this weekend, and it's a three day weekend, that's why. I'm lost in Sim City neighborhoods!
