This is the most recent of my finished projects.

Babbling!

After using one of those large ergonomic keyboards, I'm back to using a smaller "normal" one. The space bar going stupid finally became too blinking annoying to deal with. I got a nice little Logitech for 20 bucks. They had Microsoft ergonomic keyboards, but I refuse to buy Microsoft hardware again. I bought a Microsoft Mouse a while back. After two months, I had to tape one of the buttons on. So, never again on MS hardware!

While I was in Wal-mart, I saw a display of Elvis films. If you've been reading a while, you know my parents are big fans of the King. I snagged a title that I know I hadn't sent already, Viva Las Vegas, and set it aside for gift giving. Sometimes, you get lucky and find things in the five dollar bin. This bunch is nine, but if I get one at a time, that builds a nice haul for Dad and isn't hard on the pocket. Still nineteen titles on that list and Wal-mart had at least three that I know he hasn't got already. I started sending Elvis movies as gifts because they are in the "safe" list. (Elvis, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Charles Bronson are on the safe movie list for Dad.)

What's the safe list for gifts? No, that's not the ZOMG, it's not porn list. I call it the safe list because they are things that I know my Dad and Mom will enjoy or can use. You know.. the things they won't open and go... what I am I supposed to do with that? You know exactly what I mean! Things like ... electric peeling wands. My great grandmother, Nanny, bless her memory, gave one of those to my mother for Christmas years ago. Mom didn't say anything, but she had that look on her face. Nanny had that look a time or two. So, I started buying her twenty five lb. bags of sugar and flour as gifts. You want to see a face light up! She grinned from ear to ear! You see, she did a lot of baking for the holidays and would run out.

Safe lists can be very useful! For instance, nothing chamomile for my oldest. I like putting baskets or bags of things together. When Bath and Body Works has their sale on mini sizes, I tend to stock up. You never know when you might need a quick gift. Unless there are allergies involved, few women refuse B&BW products! So, tea, B&BW stuff, other thingamadoeys, and you have a gee whiz cool gift.

My house in some form of order, just don't ask me what order! It's organized clutter!

Mother's Day was rather peaceful and for that I'm grateful. My husband managed to annoy me only twice this year, meaning Mother's Day this year. This is ... scary, but good.

I wasn't feeing up to par, so I lazed about in bed. I heard barking in the distance and keep telling myself, "No, that's not Shottie, it's too far away." I got up and wandered the house, no dog in the living room, no dog in Tomsbad Cavern and the Man Cave was shut. Then I heard.. thump... near the front door. Apparently, my male pooch is smarter than than his human counterparts because when I opened the door, he gave me that, "Oh, Hi, I've been waiting on you" look. So, that was the first minor annoyance. The husband gets the blame because he sent his group through the gate and, once again, failed at supervising because it was left open. Um ... I could have sworn that's why he was tossing things out of there like a mad fool on Saturday morning. (Failure to supervise clean up.) However, I digress, but not much because it leads to the next case of lunacy of the day!

When letting the dog in, I spotted the AC filter, that was changed on Saturday, under Himself's car. The son and I don't put the trash can to the curb until Monday night. There's a reason for this, HIGH winds happen a lot in TX. You guessed it ... trash can lid (one of those automated thingamabobs) was open. That means that the loose papers that were in it were blowing out. Not a good thing at all.  So, I went out, trash bags in hand and cleaned up and bagged what he tossed. I dug out what he shouldn't have tossed. (This is where I muttered about boneheads.) I found some pennies in there and just eyed them.

Not too long ago, Himself was going about about respecting money and how he always does. So, when he trundled into the house to eat, I told him what happened with the trash can and dropped the pennies in his hand. I told him that the next time he wants to lecture me about me not respecting money that he needed to remember the money that he literally threw away.  His retort ... "I didn't do it on purpose." Um.. yeah, and that's why I check after him. Because he doesn't think about what he tosses out!

My oldest sends flowers for Mother's Day. She knows that I'm fond of roses and tries to send a bouquet twice a year. She called Saturday to find out if they arrived safely because she was not at home for me to call her. When I was done talking to her, I told my husband that while I appreciate the thought and symbolism of the flowers that the call means so much more.

Liz called and filled me in on how things are going for her and her family. We talked for twenty minutes or so. It's always good to hear her voice and the kids carrying on in the background. Usually they are laughing, it's a lovely sound. She got her gift and it was a hit.

Tom got me a tennis bracelet. It's quite pretty.

I called Mom. She also got her gift. Dad said she cried when she listened to the CD I sent her. It was the Platters. She said liked the Alfred Hitchcock DVD set, but didn't comment on the Bath and Body Works minis.

We went out for ice cream after the gamers went home. All in all, it was a good day!

Question for all you photography people. Do you have any suggestions for using macro mode on small objects? By small I mean an inch tall or so. I have all these gee whiz cool minis that I'd like to photograph and seem to be a klutz when it comes to make the objects look clear. Because of the size of these critters, the view finder is not being awfully helpful.

Tom and I were supposed to get over to the college today, but neither of us is feeling too great. I hate when my body goes into what can best be described as flush mode and that's enough said on that!

I'm working on my mini cabinet today. Emptying it has allowed me to shift everything along that one wall to the left and into the corner. I need to find a home for a few things that are still in limbo.  Things like zipper bags that can be used for blankets... oh, duh! Linen closet! The smaller ones can be used to store projects in progress, I think we have a winner! Edit: Scratch that idea. Two of the large bags were broken, so, one ended up in recycling and the other now has a home covering my Rocky Giraffe (scroll frame holder).

I have one load of laundry in the washer and one in the dryer.

It's 5 PM and I forgot what sanity is!  What I do know is that I have some lovely rib eyes and garlic potatoes to fix for dinner.

6 PM
Shifted the line of stuff against the wall. I keep saying that once the folding table is moved things will look less crowded. Things are looking up out there except for the box corner. Not much I can do with that at the moment, but it will deplete a bit as I have Mother's Day gifts among other things to mail. I took the plastic bags, that I keep meaning to drop off for recycling, out to the car so I don't forget them again.

Let's see:
Need to find homes for or trash the stuff still on and under the folding table.
Need to clean out the short set of plastic drawers and move it into place.
Need to clean off the standing table. Not much to be done under it, that's where the lawn mower hides.
Need to put the new ladder up in the wall hooks and find a home for the old one (or dump it.).
Need to find places for the carpet steamer, weed whacker, and lawn edger.

(6:17) Back to work, need to start dinner soon!

8:25 PM

Dishes all done, more laundry running.. gads, does it never end???  4 leggers are fed and, be afraid, my son's room is picked up!! ::knocks wood that it stays that way::

The contents of my mini cabinet is filling 3/4 of my sofa. The other 1/4 is going to be used for some photography practice. If I can get this guy to come out looking this well, there has to be a way to be a way to make the others look good, too! The figure was painted by Tom.

This weekend has run the gamut from  eh.. to great ... to insane. Maybe inane is a better word?

Once again we go back to this poll, three more people are still on my list of "need to make something." The most recent finished project is here. For the really curious, it's going to be heading out to [livejournal.com profile] ldygwynedd. I have a pretty good idea of what to do for two of the remaining three people on that list.

Friday night, I got in a bit of RP, but mostly, I played with my Sims. Saturday afternoon and early evening I had another Sims marathon session. I was working on stitching the cover onto the memory album, I decided that I was going to watch an episode or two of the A&E Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett. I never did get to that...  While I was attempting to remove the box of DVDs from the outer slipcover, I did a stupid and learned a valuable lesson. DO NOT stick my thumb into that push slot! I broke the nail and it was not pretty. Close to the quick as they say.  Ending up using sandpaper to file it as I couldn't find an emery board.

However, the night got better after that minor fiasco. An opportunity for RP presented itself and I had, as [livejournal.com profile] pharos_anchor likes to say, an awesometastic time.

That brings us to Sunday. I was all energetic and ready to tackle the big cabinet in the garage. In order to do a proper job of it, I had to clean the kitchen table so everything could be brought in for sorting and proper labeling. That meant putting away the bottles we got yesterday and rearranging some glassware. I got the liquor put up alright, but ... putting up the glassware was a bit of a challenge. I had the foresight to put everything on top of the fridge (the cabinet where I was storing them is over it). I got on the short step ladder and figured I'd be done in no time flat. Let me tell you, it was a good thing I was NOT hauling glasses up with me. Seems the twenty year plus old aluminum step ladder decided to give up the ghost right then and there. I remember thinking... "Oh, hell, NO, I am not landing in the hospital with a broken whatever again!" I did land on my ass and will probably be quite bruised in a day or so. Funny thing is, only my knee hurt until a couple of hours after the fact. Now, I have a dull aches in various parts of me, but my idea of a dull ache is someone else's idea of... "Holy shit that hurts!"

So, on Monday, I have three packages to mail; one to GA, one to CO, and one to FL. Hopefully, we will get the Explorer over to Midas to have the exhaust system looked over. I want to see if I can find sandalwood oil to make some soaps.  I have laundry and a few minor things to attend to, but should be able to get that cabinet done on Tuesday or wait until Wednesday when both of the boys are at work. Need to call Jessica and find out if Aaron got his box as the tracking receipt says a notice was left, but it wasn't picked up, yet.

2:30 AM

I'm tired and yawning, but if I go into bed, I'll just toss and turn. I have story in progress for K, but it's not quite ready yet. I have it half written, but when you are doing a dream sequence it can be awkward. I started what was supposed to be a  Quickstart Guide for[livejournal.com profile] navarra to explain who is who and what's what. It was originally going to be a family tree and grew.  It just keeps getting longer and longer! Then again, the original board that started it began on 31 December 1996. The LJ was started in January 2004 and I still have older things that weren't put in it, yet!

Friday, they are coming to install the new dishwasher. They already know about the dog, so that's good. Last thing I want is him eating a repairman!

Bagging and tagging for entries up to March 2005 is done.

Current audio book is Unhinged by Sarah Graves. On disc 4 of 8.  Read two chapters in Voyager.

RP has been fun so far this week!

On tap for Thursday:
UHBS
Laundry

Clean out the freezer and fridge.
Sweep and mop kitchen floor.

Eggplant and potatoes for dinner.
Check on couple of things for Kevin. 1/2 credit for this one.
Dump trash.

Pack up the photo CD I was working on and Mom's birthday gift for mailing on Friday.

Friday, I want to clear up my desk and get more done out in the garage. Much of the stuff out there is craft supplies.

I'd like to be during more craft work, but my current project is slow going. If I want to meet my one craft project goal for the month, I have 14 days to finish it. I have a total of 10 pieces in the project. Five pieces are finished, one is 1/3 of the way worked and the other two large pieces haven't been touched, yet. I think I figured out how to give Mother Goose a face.

I need Tom to take the trash bin with a bag in it out to the game room. Also need him to put the minis on the shelves that we took out there already.

Need one of the boys to change a couple of light bulbs. Kevin needs to do the litterbox before the weekend is out.

First order of business. I received an adorable card in yesterday's mail from [livejournal.com profile] mummm! Thank you, Sue!

I was good and waited until Christmas to open the gift packages that arrived in the mail!

Yesterday, I was saying that I should not have my windows hanging open in the end of November. Sure enough, that caught up with me! It was cold today and rained a bit ago. Big drops that smacked the window panes. My son came running out of his WoW stupor to ask if it was hail.

Tom is cooking dinner tonight and we are waiting until Kevin gets in from work to get to eating. Might say we are having a Texas style Thanksgiving as we are having some nice steaks on the grill. No point in cooking turkey when Kevin doesn't care for it and Tom and I are somewhat indifferent. At least we all like the grilled moo on a plate!

I have a lovely Archipelago candle burning. The scent finally trickle through my senses. It's called Enfleurage.  The scent is a mix of French Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, and Rose. I'm fond of several of their scents, Stonehenge is my favorite; it's a lovely mix with bergamot.

Good things come to those who wait. That's what people keep telling me and I'm learning that's it's quiet true. About time don't you think?

When the mail was checked last night I found, much to my delight, that two friends had sent me birthday remembrances. Both came from PA. [livejournal.com profile] rachaelwynter sent me one of the lovely dolls that she has been working diligently on for the last few months! Thank you!
Have a peek behind the cut!

I finally finished this and I'm pleased with it. It serves a double purpose and maybe I should hold off on posting until it arrives at its destination, but there's a bit of method in my madness.

Ten people answered this. Five of the ten received something. Unfortunately, one of the packages was returned unclaimed, so I'm double checking all addresses before mailing anything!

Number six on that list of ten people is [livejournal.com profile] jilicious. Jil, please drop me a note at [email protected] and confirm your current and full mailing address. What's behind the cut will be on its way out to you soon!

First of all, this is my grandson, Tyler's, third birthday! I knew I forgot something at Wal-mart! Doh. Gift card.. so his mama can pick him a nice toy or something!

I have another progress picture of my latest craft project. I'm pleased as punch, let me tell you!! This is working up faster than I thought it would.

I dropped one of my needle threaders and it's not findable.. ugh.

More later. Tired now.

yellowrosetx: (Crafts)

This is what I spent the better part of the three day weekend working on. So far, it's shaping up nicely.

yellowrosetx: (Crafts)
Some of you might remember this poll.

Ten people replied, 5 items were sent, 1 off the wall item and three handmade gifts arrived safely. According to my tracking receipt, the fourth handmade one has been at a post office in Michigan since Aug 13. Anyone have any idea what's up with [livejournal.com profile] nikkinicola?

There are still five people on my gift poll list. Two in PA, one in FL, one in CA, and one in AZ. I have not forgotten. I found something that I hope will be perfect for my friend in AZ. I think I found something very nice and very useful for the friend in FL. Still debating on the other three.

On disc six of listening to The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler. Waiting on pizza for dinner and going to watch Vanity Fair while I stitch. Maybe afterward, I'll write a bit or watch more of Bones. Might just fall into bed.

One more time, here I go!

This poll is currently closed, but I might do another one, one of these days. 10 people took part in that poll. This is the fifth project of ten. Everyone that filled out that poll said they enjoyed getting surprises in the mail, that much I will tell you.

My latest project in progress is here.
