Safely settled into my chair to write. I have some iced tea and my snuggly shawl. The house is quiet for the moment. ::knocks wood:: Four ideas and which to run with first? That's the question!

Today was productive. Got several things done. Recently watched Secret Yellowstone and Beyond the Movie - Troy, both National Geographic productions. I enjoyed watching NG programs as a kid. Was amazed to learn that there two million acres to Yellowstone and it has at least 300 waterfalls. There are seven known wolf packs that live in Yellowstone. Wolves were reintroduced to the area in 1995.

I finally finished the hall closet. Ended up using those vacuum storage bags. HOLY MOLY... they squashed my big comforter almost flat! I need to get a few more of those!

Thursday will be clean the front yard day, I think. Maybe part of it Thursday and part Friday. We'll see what the weather looks like.

Next week the game plan is getting car in for repairs and getting Tom's closet cleaned out.

June 2 is the release date for Sims 3, I've been debating on this a long time. I think I'm going to get the game after all. Especially since they will be using a packaging system again. It used to bug me to no end when DLing things for the first Sims game and have to hunt down the wallpaper, furniture, etc. to get the houses to look like the pictures.

Anywho ... off to write, I hope.

I like to believe there's an afterlife. Some people believe that spirits walk among the living, some don't. I'm not trying to start a religious argument. The simple fact is that some people believe and others don't, I respect their right to do so. Monday morning I jolted awake from a dead sleep; it was pouring outside. So, I came out of the bedroom to get a drink. I wasn't feeling well and had been coughing, so I figured a drink and/or cough drop would help ease things so I could sleep. My nose twitched as something familiar hit it. Yup, the smell of wet dog. I'd like to put it down to that carpet near the front door, but the scent faded as quickly as it had caught my attention.

My son has been experiencing similar things. The other half, nope. Call us nuts, but if it's our imagination, it gives us comfort. If it's not and the place is now haunted, that's not really a bad thing for us. At least we know who it is, right?

Actress Beatrice Arthur, best known for her roles as Maude in Maude and Dorothy in Golden Girls, has passed away. She was 86. According to news articles, she passed away quietly with her family present. She had some form of cancer, but no details were disclosed.

Watched Australia and am reading Curious Customs by Tad Tuleja.

Plans for today:
Scrub down Tom's bathroom.
Not sure what dinner will be ... yet. Probably burgers or meatloaf to use up the hamburger in the fridge. Want to have dinner done and cleaned up before 7.
Have more laundry put away.
And RP in the evening.

Time to sleep.

Media Madness!
Finally finished the hard cover of Resolution. Good book, if you like westerns and/or Robert B. Parker's writing, you'll probably like it. It's the sequel to Appaloosa which was made into a film not so long ago. Tried listening to the audiobook of The Young Carthaginian, but the reader was one of those that has a sleeping time voice. Might try again. Current movie is The Trip to Bountiful. Still have 3 DVDs in the library bag to watch. Have a couple of books left, too; one on customs and superstitions, the other is by George Burns. Have a bunch due back on 28 April.

Mini-city
Several friends are doing the dragon scroll thing. This is what I'm doing, a mini-city. If you have a sec to go and click, please do. http://mo-chroi.myminicity.com/ind. That will add factories to my city.

I'm finally answering the comments that were left on the 14th and 15th. Once again, I thank all of you.

It's Monday morning 2 AM. Can't sleep. I slept a good part of Saturday and that's probably why. I stuck "Paint Your Wagon" (with a young Clint Eastwood in it) into the DVD RW and am watching while I do a few other things. Today, I need to pick up the house, do laundry, get the trash out, and get all but the shower curtain, bath mat, and essentials for one shower from the bathroom. Going make a meat pie for dinner, something quick and easy. Need to get the heavy quilt cleaned and put away for the summer. Want to have everything cleaned up and done before House is over as I have some plans for the evening.

Between now and the end of May I want to get Tom's bathroom and the linen closet cleaned out. Hopefully, his closet as well.

I have some ideas for stories rumbling. A wedding, a funeral, a chat between husband and wife (that one is part of a larger story), and a few others. Now, if I could just get them to settle in my head so I can get them into a tangible form.

The cat has been very attentive of late. She's been sleeping under my feet when I'm at my desk. She's usually not this sociable, but I must admit it is nice. She won't sit on my lap like she will with Kevin, but sometimes climbs up in the chair and tries to squeeze behind my back and the back of the chair. Go figure.

Earlier, I was trying to figure out why my eye hurt. seems I have a sty developing.

Not much else to say.

Those of you that were/are fans of the series Angel should remember Lorne the karaoke demon. Andy Hallett, 33, passed away yesterday due to heart failure. Funeral is supposed to be in Connecticut.

Read at least two chapters in a paper book. There's another thing off my list! I read three chapters in Dragonfly in Amber. My house is eh.. I dunno, half baked, but I'm not worrying over it. I still have plans of getting that closet done this week. I'm even considering painting it, might just wash the walls. Anyone have suggestions for a cleaner that won't peel the paint and won't be harmful to the environment?

I'm bagging and tagging Nov. 2006. Here's a gem from the archives! (4 entries remaining, longish ones, they will keep.)
And a hmm thing from the archives:
Joey Dallas: "Plato was gay."
Jessica Tate: "Mickey Mouse had a gay dog?"
from the TV Series, Soap.

Random Thinkage:

Some herbal teas should not be sweetened like Celestial Seasoning's Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride.

I like being able to open the back door and look up into the sky. I looked out tonight and saw Orion the Hunter just over my backyard. I was pleased with myself for still being able to see the star cluster (the Orion Nebula, that I had to look up!) in Orion's sword. Also a good memory test was recalling that the three stars in his belt actually have names. I remember A, A, M, but the last, Mintaka, stands out because Mintaka in some language or other means "belt." Most people that have studied constellations at all can tell you that Betelgeuse is a red star in this constellation.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get the last of the Nov 2006 entries finished today and this:
Cut the parts for my next plastic canvas project. (Some doll furniture, maybe a poll gift, maybe not) Not 100% sure on the doll furniture, might cut two projects at the same time.

While most everyone noticed George Carlin's passing, yesterday, few may have heard of Dody Goodman's death. Ms. Goodman was best known for her rolls as Blanche the secretary in Grease and Grease 2 and the mother in Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. She was 93.

Memories

Charlton Helston is dead. I think what impressed me most in the news article is that he was married to the same woman for 64 years.

Today would have been my paternal grandmother's birthday. She passed on last year.

My husband sent me this link  because I'm a packrat. I'm glad to know that I'm not even in that woman's league! My first reaction to the guy's bitching is... "If you don't like it, move the hell out." Yes, the woman has serious issues, but if he's a freaking adult, I have to wonder what's the excuse that he can't take himself out of the situation.

Friday, we did Bennigan's for dinner and then went over to Hastings. I got Tommy and Tuppence Set 2 on DVD. If you are an Agatha Christie buff, you probably know who they are. They are my favorites of her detectives. My next bunch of DVD viewings is going to be Smallville. Tom now has seasons 1-6. Picked up 6 for 19.99 at Wal-mart.

I'm amazed at how much "old" stuff that my mother likes is in the 5 dollar bins at Wal-mart. I found a Platters CD and a DVD with a collection of Alfred Hitchcock films.  Maybe that makes me sound cheap, but I rather buy something inexpensive that I know she will like as opposed to pricey that she'll look at with that "What am I supposed to do with this" expression. We've all seen that look on someone's face at least once!

First, I heard about the mini city thing from [livejournal.com profile] ladybast. http://mo-chroi.myminicity.com/ If you click the link, you help me boost my little city's population level. Thank you!

So, has anyone else heard the fuss about Chelsea Clinton telling a guy the answer to his question was none of his business?

Come on, Chelsea, you are out on the campaign trail for mom and supposed to be making her look good not coming off like a snarky bitch. Yes, she had every right to tell the guy it was none of his business, BUT... anything a President or potential President does in the public eye is subject to scrutiny.  Frankly, if I had been in her shoes, I think I would have told him that Hillary showed no weakness during the Monica Mess. Hillary tried to protect her daughter as best she could and she was loyal to her husband, whether or not he deserved it. Now, what happened behind closed doors that IS none of his business. Frankly, if Monica didn't go bragging about who she was blowing to her taping recording not friend, nobody would have been any the wiser.

To the guy that asked... Don't you have a better question to ask? I mean really, people MIGHT be asking in their own circles, you might have asked a question on a lot of people's minds, but really ... Lewinski is old news, LET IT GO, there are more important things to  worry about!!

I have one disc of Sherlock Holmes remaining to watch. I'm starting it up now. I have a few odds and ends to attend to around the house. 1 AM and I'm folding clothes and what not.  Sorted a pile of stuff to go back in the youngin's room.

Dinner ended up to be burgers and fries. I need to separate and freeze the hamburger. Not sure if making the meat pie or sausage. Might hit the store for shredded cheese or have Tom to it and make my own version of the pie.

Need to call the bank and check on deposits and balance. Hopefully, getting ready to kick the IRS mess in the ass a bit.

Barring rain, Thursday should be a good day to get to work in the yard. Tuesday can be used for dumping the fridge, laundering the throw rugs and mopping the kitchen floor. I figure I can toss the meat pie into cook before doing either job and it would be left to warm after cooking.

Need to have a long chat with my dear son. Since his work schedule has been changed to help accommodate his forthcoming school schedule, if I set up dental appointments on Tuesday or Thursday, he can drop me off and pick me up at the office or the library, which is open late on those nights.

Need to get the paving sand so Kevin and Tom can work on the walkway out to the game building. Also need to get a roll of screening so Tom can repair the screen again. Need to measure the windows that we no longer have screens for.

I have a few writing projects that I would like to get moving on.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
If Monday was an example of coming attractions, I think I'm going to really like my husband's new work schedule.  More important than that, he seems very happy with his new job! They have presently promised a minimum eight hours a week in OT. We had dinner before 7 PM. If I want to do crock pot meals they will have to go in earlier, but I think that will  be a good thing.

I got not much done on yesterday's to do list. I did get the recycling stuff and bulk trash to the curb. Still need to take care of the dog. While I'm watching Sherlock Holmes and cooling my brain down, I'm going to finishing sorting the bead mess and bag and tag a bit. After sleep, I will take care of issues with the IRS and County Tax office. Both owe us money, YAY! I also have a pile of laundry to fold, a couple of loads of wash to do and clean up a few things around here. Car needs to be cleaned out. Need to check food supplies for extra ketchup, spaghetti sauce and a few other things. Thankfully, it's just the UHBS and nothing disastrous that needs to be done at present.

I'm editing a log for a story. I have a few ideas for a follow up piece. Something that was not played, but should fit.

2:33 PM

Laundry rolling, attending to kitchen.

8:20 PM

Got the laundry caught up save the load still in the dryer. Got the UHBS done. Got the one set of tax papers done, need the Spousal Unit to sign the others.

Got the dog shaved. Poor guy looks a mess, but at least he won't be chewing on himself and he smells better! He has allergies and when he starts to shed, he chews the fur, which irritates the skin, the combination of the allergies AND the shed/chew process is awful! If I could lift this 70 lb dog onto the the old table we have in the garage, the job would be easier. However, I can't, he balks at anyone else even trying. What can I say, he's my dog and spoiled!

I indulged in a hot shower after we shaved the pooch and have a lovely bottle of Mudslide.

This weekend has run the gamut from  eh.. to great ... to insane. Maybe inane is a better word?

Once again we go back to this poll, three more people are still on my list of "need to make something." The most recent finished project is here. For the really curious, it's going to be heading out to [livejournal.com profile] ldygwynedd. I have a pretty good idea of what to do for two of the remaining three people on that list.

Friday night, I got in a bit of RP, but mostly, I played with my Sims. Saturday afternoon and early evening I had another Sims marathon session. I was working on stitching the cover onto the memory album, I decided that I was going to watch an episode or two of the A&E Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett. I never did get to that...  While I was attempting to remove the box of DVDs from the outer slipcover, I did a stupid and learned a valuable lesson. DO NOT stick my thumb into that push slot! I broke the nail and it was not pretty. Close to the quick as they say.  Ending up using sandpaper to file it as I couldn't find an emery board.

However, the night got better after that minor fiasco. An opportunity for RP presented itself and I had, as [livejournal.com profile] pharos_anchor likes to say, an awesometastic time.

That brings us to Sunday. I was all energetic and ready to tackle the big cabinet in the garage. In order to do a proper job of it, I had to clean the kitchen table so everything could be brought in for sorting and proper labeling. That meant putting away the bottles we got yesterday and rearranging some glassware. I got the liquor put up alright, but ... putting up the glassware was a bit of a challenge. I had the foresight to put everything on top of the fridge (the cabinet where I was storing them is over it). I got on the short step ladder and figured I'd be done in no time flat. Let me tell you, it was a good thing I was NOT hauling glasses up with me. Seems the twenty year plus old aluminum step ladder decided to give up the ghost right then and there. I remember thinking... "Oh, hell, NO, I am not landing in the hospital with a broken whatever again!" I did land on my ass and will probably be quite bruised in a day or so. Funny thing is, only my knee hurt until a couple of hours after the fact. Now, I have a dull aches in various parts of me, but my idea of a dull ache is someone else's idea of... "Holy shit that hurts!"

So, on Monday, I have three packages to mail; one to GA, one to CO, and one to FL. Hopefully, we will get the Explorer over to Midas to have the exhaust system looked over. I want to see if I can find sandalwood oil to make some soaps.  I have laundry and a few minor things to attend to, but should be able to get that cabinet done on Tuesday or wait until Wednesday when both of the boys are at work. Need to call Jessica and find out if Aaron got his box as the tracking receipt says a notice was left, but it wasn't picked up, yet.

Common question these days, I think. Who are you and what have you done with my spouse, child, parent, friend, and so on? Behavior seems to be as changeable as the weather, mine included.  It's pouring outside; it's cold, too.

For the first time in a couple months, my husband has a five day work week. We are call screening on Saturday, if it's work, we are not answering, let someone else do the OT for a change. He's promising dinner at the TX Roadhouse. HOT DAMN!

Everyone has off days, why do I keep having more than my flipping share? Why do I keep managing to piss people off when I'm trying to resolve something? Sometimes, I should just not talk to people.

Been catching up on the Grenada/A&E Sherlock Holmes series on DVD. Jeremy Brett was the all times best Holmes.

Tom's first day on the new job went well. Other than him being tired, but that's about normal.

9PM
All that's left to do tonight is feed the other half and clear up his dishes.

Friday 6AM

Yes, yes, should be sleeping. Need a to do list, etc.

So, I'm going to do the UHBS, find a chicken recipe for dinner, pound concept of "you will do this" into son, and maybe finish a craft project that's been on the back burner.

A couple hours ago, I felt sleepy, but now, I'm bouncing off the walls again!

I bagged and tagged up to 20 June 2005.

I got about two, maybe two and a half pages of writing done; according to Word anyway.

I've been looking for Voices of Comfort for a while, but I want the whole CD not just a few tracks. I like her voice. Looks like ITunes has it. WOOT! Must get download card! If you run a search for Cait agus Sean, you'll find it.

The world of acting lost two people in the last few days. I remember both fondly.

Allan Melvin, a character actor, who played roles like Sam the butcher on the Brady Bunch passed away recently. I also recall him as Sgt. Hacker on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.  He did cartoon voices  like Magilla Gorilla.  He died at age 84 from lung cancer.

Suzanne Pleshette, who is probably best known for her role as Emily on the Bob Newhart Show,  passed away at age seventy from lung cancer. She did several Disney films as I recall. The last episode of Newhart is something I doubt people will forget. Dr. Bob Hartley rolled over and told his wife, Emily, that he had a dream about owning an inn in Vermont. Now, THAT was good writing.

I bagged and tagged entries up to 31  May 2005. I'm getting closer to being caught up, yay!

Current audio book is  Ines of My Soul by Isabel Allende.  I'm doing really well on my goal for new books, but paper books are another matter.

I have the second of the four large pieces for my latest craft project about 2/3 finished.

Today, I need to fold and put away laundry. The house is in ok shape, so I need to clear crap off of my desk and get the bill payments written out. Might go between cleaning the desk and the garage depending on the temperatures. Some of the stuff hiding in my office corner is eventually going to be stored in the craft cabinet or other storage areas in the garage.   One step at a time gets the job done. Need to clear off the next shelf in line if nothing else out there.

I have a couple of pieces of writing to work on.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
I've been wrapping and preparing gifts for mailing. I have Mom and Dad's stuff ready to mail as well as everything to go to Jess and Aaron. I have Tyler and Logan's stuff boxed but I don't have the packing material in it, yet.

I have a lot of my cards ready to roll. I hope to have all family packages out by Monday and all cards out by next Friday. Note that I said hope.  The earlier the better, less lines at the PO.

Still working on the photo album. The front is coming along nicely! I'm about halfway through with it.  Mother Goose is starting to take shape and I have all the lettering done. I'm going to either sew a lining inside it or make a backing out of plastic canvas.

Tried listening to a few audio books, but for some reason they didn't capture my attention.  Current one is The Golden Compass. I think I'm going to look for the Dark is Rising as well as the Harry Potter books I don't have on CD.

Tuesday's to do list

UHBS

Grocery store trip (need more CD mailers, milk, lunches for Kevin, and laundry soap, possibly other things)

Library drop off and switch out.

Might get a couple of boxes mailed

Need to record Bones and House so Kevin can watch them when he gets home.

Dinner will be Chili Mac and some kind of rice and corn dish that I have in the cupboard. I plan on eating early and leaving plates in the oven for the boys.

Hopefully, there will be time for RP once my list is done for the day.
yellowrosetx: (Default)

Did the shopping run on Sunday and the library on Saturday.  Picked up a few interesting audio books. I have the tapes of one of them, a Harry Potter, but I want to make a disc of my favorite audio books in mp3 format. My DVD player as well as my computer will play them, so it's all good. They allow five out at a time. I often get weird looks for checking the young adult and children's section, but oh, well.  People miss wonderful stories that way. Series of Unfortunate Events, The Time Quartet, and many others are still enjoyable regardless of age. Also picked up The Golden Compass, and Birthright.

I got my check this month. Mostly, I bought groceries, but I did treat myself to season 2 of Bones on DVD.

For now, Kevin has Saturday and Sunday off. This is both good and bad. Means any business he needs to do at a public office with only M-F hours needs to be done before he goes to work. And that's bit of a problem ... he doesn't like getting up at 0 dark early after being in the Army for 20 years.

I managed to get a small bit of writing done this weekend. Nothing great, just one of those get the juices flowing things. I'm working on a first person piece for K, but that's something that will end up posted in [livejournal.com profile] navarra, probably to friends only.

I have a few of the DVD and CDs ready that I planned on mailing. I can let the computer work on more of those while I get other things done around here. Need to write a personal note with each. Want to get them mailed out before the end of the week. Well, given Thanksgiving is Thursday, Monday is the day to target. And ooooh, boy... Wal-mart should be having their big ass sale on Friday!

yellowrosetx: (Default)

It's a semi-normal day around here. However, it's not everyday that you have spent 27 years with someone. Anniversary 27. Scary, huh?

Last night I sat out with the candy as I usually do. We got at least 60 trick or treaters, but we live in a primarily military neighborhood so there are lots of kids around. I sat out for two reasons, dog and ditch. No doorbell or knocking means the pooch stays relatively quiet. Sitting out means that the kids don't cross the yard, where we have a drainage ditch they can fall into. Thankfully, in Texas it's warm in October to someone that grew up in PA. I ended up with a sweater on. Not because I was cold, but because the mosquitoes wanted to eat me!

Cutest costume was a tie between a toddler girl dressed as a poodle and a four or five year  boy old dressed Harry Potter. Most adorable trick or treater was a little girl dressed as Jeannie (I Dream of Jeannie). She did that crossed arms and popped the ponytail thing just like Barbara Eden did in the TV show! Most original costume I saw was a reporter, she was dressed to the nines in heels and carrying a microphone and interviewed people. Prettiest one was a salsa dancer, the dress reminded me of Rose's ball gown in Titanic.

The Jeannie thing prompted me to look up Barbara Eden. Ms. Eden, IMO, is a classic beauty. I doubt she's ever had a bit of plastic surgery and is still lovely in her seventies.  Brittany Spears and a few others should take a lesson there.

Mattel's Jeannie Barbie is one I'd like to get my hands on some day.

And who knew that that the "I Dream of Jeannie" theme had lyrics? Doesn't really surprise me since Star Trek and Bonanza did. That brings back memories. My grandfather used to watch  Bonanza and Gunsmoke every Sunday night. Anyone of the family was welcome to watch, but it was an unspoken rule that you didn't  talk while in the TV room. If you wanted to socialize, you went into the kitchen.

yellowrosetx: (Crafts)
I have a million things running through my head. I should be asleep, but right now, I can't. So, I'm watching my season 1 Bones DVDs and finishing the back of my current needlework project.

Making use of my Rocky Giraffe Stand to hold the piece of plastic canvas in place. While it's just a simple gobelin stitch, the piece is fairly large. Much like the Schoolhouse Tote, this piece also parts attached (flowers, leaves, and bells) to make it three dimensional.

6:12 AM

Finished back, heart, two flowers and two leaves. Sleep time!

3:51 PM

Slept weirdly, odd dreams. I need to start writing those down.

Got the cutest change of address card from [livejournal.com profile] realkate! Lilli's adorable! :)

Have one more tape of The Monsters of Morley Manor: A Madcap Adventure and am listening to The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler.

Have started on more of the add ons for my PC project. Before I sleep again, I should have those parts finished and be ready to begin the front and spine of the project.

Going to go annoy my Sims while I stitch.
yellowrosetx: (Default)

It's 4:20 AM. I'm wavering between wide awake and Whhoops... fading. Odd how that goes.

April 2004 of bagging and tagging is done.

Listening to Seduced by Moonlight by Laurell K. Hamilton. The reader is ok, but the book is just not doing anything for me right now.
I finally got around to finishing chapter 12 of Bright Orange for the Shroud by John D. MacDonald.
