Books and other adventures...
Oct. 15th, 2003 09:22 pmOver the summer while I was working I discovered the wonderful world of audio books. Presently, I'm listening to an unabridged edition of The Two Towers.
While typing away at loan applications, we were allowed to have CDs or cassette players with headphones to listen to music, etc. It helped pass the time.
I listened to Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone during this time. I loved it! Hagrid is perfectly cast in the film. Did I mention I'm a Robbie Coltrain fan?
I'm going to try to get my hands on Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to read and watch. The character, Lady Chablis, is priceless in the abridged audio book and I understand plays him/herself in the film.
I listened to the tales of Sherlock Holmes and Watson, A Baker's Street Dozen. John Gielgud makes a wonderful Sherlock Holmes and Orson Welles has a superb voice for Moriarty. It's my opinion that there will never be anyone better suited to the role of Sherlock Holmes than the late Jeremy Brett. Brett was Sherlock Holmes in the A&E series, The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.
I was introduced to the writings of Patricia Cornwell. Most that have read her books would think.... Kate Scarpetta. Well, I have listened to Kate Scarpetta and liked those stories, but the first thing of hers I read and listened to was nonfiction. Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper -- Case Closed was my first experience with her writing. I'm not totally convinced she's right, but one never really knows.
