Big Day!

I suppose that if the only thing that goes wrong today is Taco Bell shorting me a container of nachos, that's a good thing, right?

Today is Father's Day, it's also my baby boy's twenty-first birthday! :)
I picked up Taco Bell because it's one of his favorites. The boys are outback in the game room as they are every Sunday. What better way to celebrate the day than with his friends? I brought a lovely chocolate cake from the local HEB bakery; they make awesome stuff. I also picked up a Tiger Cake for Kevin and me. Very rich chocolate.

Tom jokingly asked if I brought him a beer. Heh ... no. If he really wants beer or something else today for his first legal drink of an alcoholic beverage, he can do so after his underage friends go home.

We had a private celebration on Friday at the Thai Orchid, just the three of us for birthday and Father's Day. We were supposed to go to see Adam Sandler's new movie, but the time schedule Tom was looking at was botched. We did get to Hastings, though, and he got a nice little haul of things including a new D & D Player's Handbook and CDs that he wasn't able to find anywhere else.

I got this. Interestingly enough, I think the information in the book about Labradorite explains a whole lot. More on this later.

It should be a happy day, but all I can think of right now is a father that's now raising two kids on his own.

I went to the places I used to post and RP (RT, RDI and SEB) with his wife. I don't know if it was the right thing or not, but I went to the old RT board and I posted about her passing. I posted where she used to write her stories about her kids, some were called Coryisms after her daughter, and where Heck used to tell tales about Migrant Mom. I hope that Papa Heck, as some called him, is helping her find her way among the stars he love so well.

To those that knew an LJer called [livejournal.com profile] moonmama, I share your loss.
To those AOL roleplayers that knew her from her characters, Jessie and Angel Caven or Angelina Smythe, I share your loss and remember her writings.
To RT Alumni, as I like to call us, she shared with us as we shared with her.

Post from RT )

The announcement was posted in her journal by her husband.

Tom won an honorable mention award for some clay masks that he made. They are Comedy and Tragedy. The bonus is that he made them for Kevin for Father's Day. I think it's cool that he won the award for something he made for dear old dad.

He made me some candle holders for Mother's Day. They are late, but he did tell me they would be. I like them. He also made me something to burn incense cones. I don't burn cones a lot anymore, but I might burn them more often with the new holder.

Sending my entries in for the HEB and Jelly Belly contest.

I took a page from Scrooge McDuck's book and decided to work smarter not harder with regard to my cataloging and scanning projects. Using OCR software didn't work as I originally hoped it would for this project, but... running the contents pages via OCR and then plugging the info into the database has speeded up things a lot! I am able to catalog several books at a time then run and edit scans.

I have The Silver Chair by C. S. Lewis running and finished Wisdom of the 90s by George Burns. I have several others including The Black Opal by Victoria Holt, but I can't seem to get into that one. I guess I was in a mood for humor on my last library trip because I picked up George Burns, Erma Bombeck, and Jonathan Winters.

Happy....

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers and dads.

Happy Birthday to my son, Tom. He's old enough to drive, now. When traveling through Texas, this is why you will see rubber telephone poles. ;)
