1:14 PM

So, here I am again chronicling the days events.

We have tickets for tomorrow's midnight show of Pirates of the Caribbean. YAY!!

Need to get to the bank in my travels today so I won't have to go out in the day tomorrow. Need cash for food before the movie and need bread crumbs for tonight's meatloaf.

Had a bit of a scare last night. Heard this big ass BOOM outside, looked at Kevin and said, "What the fuck?" I mean really... it sounded like someone ran into a parked car. So, we ran onto to see because the Buick was parked on the street. And what to our wondering eyes should appear, but .... a small firetruck. YES, A FIRETRUCK. The driver just wished us a good evening, I think they were checking the neighborhood out because we live near a wooded area. For the most part, the people in our neighborhood are experienced with explosives, but uh.... there's always the idiot and shit happens factors.

Timer going off 1:26 PM, time to get back out in the yard.
3:12 PM

Drink break. We dug up most of the morning glory and sawed down the roots. Maybe that will make it more manageable when it grows back. The root system was amazing. It had anchored itself into the ground with much thicker versions of the tendrils it was using to climb the rose bush.

Cut down a good part of the rosebush. Will trim it and all the others again when the growing season ends around November. Trimmed and edged the front of the house and the one side up to the fence. Didn't do the edge of the fence on that side as it's not a good foothold area for me. Going back out after my drink break to finish the other side of the front yard.  Might try to do the high side of the fenced section of the yard while Tom is at church. Won't attempt the lower section as the slope poses a safety hazard for Ms. Lopsided here and I would rather not end up on my ass or worse with no human help about the house. However... if I get the high side done I can put at least one of the three roses into the ground.

Was able to get pictures of the pink Peace (I'm pretty sure mine is a Chicago Peace) and Golden Showers. Will post them later. Those two along with the Summer Snow are the longest time roses I have. The Summer Snow has been in the ground out there since about 1992, so it's an old plant.

The Scent from Above, a yellow, is going to be the one going on the downslope. It's a climber and surely will make a nice cover up for the fence on that end. I still have a Sterling Silver, which has blooms on it, and another, the name escapes me at the moment, to plant. I almost got ground cover roses, but I figured I had enough planned as it was. I can't save all of them even at 75% off.

I've taken a 40 minute break, I need to get out, move the truck, and edge the rest of the driveway and that side of the yard. Must be VERY careful around the AC.

7:31 PM

Finished the front yard. Still have to dispose of the cuttings.
It's been threatening to rain on and off all day, but that means for a small part of the time I was out there, there was a nice breeze blowing. I really need to remember to wear my hat when I'm outside, sunburned scalp is sooooooo not cool.

I swept up the sidewalks and driveway where I ran the trimmer and even cleaned up what went into my neighbors' yard. I had an "oh, shit," moment when I was done trimming the one side of the house and the AC stopped running. I was certain I hadn't cut the power wire, but still... what are the odds? It started back up about 10 minutes later, can we say sigh of relief?

I'm sure Kevin is going to ask will be... "Did you get the roses planted today?" And the answer is no. I considered putting one out front, but with the black spot out there, it would be a bad idea. So, tomorrow's goal is trimming and edging the driveway side of the house including the fence line.. Since one of the rosebushes is going in there, I think I'll have Tom plant it after I run the weed whacker.

I double checked and the one I couldn't remember is called Sundance. I think that one should go at the far end of the fence before the downslope and the Sterling Silver should go in by the Disneyland. I'd like to have roses against the fence toward the front.. BUT...  I use that section of the fence as a railing and that won't work. Sometimes, we have to be practical.

They posted this in the Snopes RSS feed today and I wanted to share. Mother Nature has some spectacular shows, this is one of the most beautiful and nonhazardous ones.

Ended up not going out today, toooo tired after fighting with the weed whacker and its errant spool of cutting line. So, tomorrow, it's yard, driving school for Tom and the bank while he's there. Already called and there's room in the new class. They will even let him take a class in the morning on Wednesday to make up for his church days. Told him he'd have to make up one day for missing today. So, it's set, he's pitching a fit, too bad.

More later.
