Mother Nature is playing games out there. Raining on and off. I still have things to do out there and plan to get them done. It's like, great, purposely trying to screw me over, are you? Right... not good.

It's 12:30 AM on Friday.. yes, it took this long for me to get back to this!!

I spent 3 or 4 hours in the backyard with Tom. The results are ok, but not fantabulous. I wish I had a better backing for the flowers, but for now it will do to keep a lot of weeds from coming between the fences and holding down the weed paper until I find an alternative. If it was one solid sheet or one height it might not looks so fugly, but at the moment it serves a purpose. Some of the bags of mulch and potting soil had been rained on so many times that they were stuck tight to the ground. We used two bags of mulch and two of potting soil so far. I have yet to open the black volcanic rock to top the pile!

All in all Thursday was productive. Got a bunch of trash out of the garage, picked up the house, and did a pile of laundry. I put the better part of the meat I just got into the freezer. I'm thinking sausage for Saturday dinner.

Friday will be busy, but not extremely so. General clean up (That's dishes, bed making and the other everyday things. ) and putting away laundry. Currently one load in the washer, one drying, and one ready to fold.

Doing the Harry Potter thing in the evening.

Behind the cut are some of the results of Thursday's attempts at gardening. Large image warning!

The garden is a work in progress and not neatened up.

This is the Easy Living. As I said it's a lovely orange rosebush. It's the fourth bush from the front of the fence. The first in line is the Sterling Silver, which currently has only one blossom as the dead ones were all plucked off. Pictures of that bush can be found here.

Miniature roses in yellow and off-white (cream). The white one is buried a tad deeper than I would like, but I think it will be fine.

In the background of this picture you can see the wood that's going to be used for the flower frame and some of the other supplies.
Apparently, this pretty plant is very happy with its new home. It already has at least two more flowers on it than when I brought it home on Monday. It's sucking up the water that's been just sitting in the yard. This is why I refer to that section as "The Mudhole." If you look in the lower right of the picture, you can see part of the wet mess that slowed us down. Best grass in the entire yard though!

That cement tree circle was put there at the request of my husband. He said he didn't want to run it over with the mower. I wasn't going to argue the point. Could use a bit more mini river rocks in there to cover that small section of weed paper and mulch, but other than that, I like it.

I love the smell of lilacs. When I was growing up in Scranton, PA, our next door neighbor had a huge lilac bush, probably twelve feet high. Somewhere, I have pictures.

In Texas, it's too warm for most forms of lilacs to grow. But as I have learned after living here almost twenty years, you better not tell a Texan no or they will prove to you that someone can make that negative answer into a yes. When I moved here in 1990, I was told to forget smelling the scent of pine trees because they grow best in cold weather and there were none here. A few years later we were at a tree lighting ceremony and told that what we were looking at was a pine tree especially bred to survive in very warm climates. Smelled like pine to me.

Given my desire to grow lilacs in my yard, you can just imagine my absolute delight and the moment of squeeeeeeeeeeee when I realized I was not imagining things at Home Depot, it looks like lilacs, it smells like lilacs with a touch of lavender, and OMG the tag says.. "Texas lilac." According to what I've been reading this little plant has grown to up to 15 feet in height in San Antonio, good thing I gave it plenty of space to spread and it well away from the power lines!

Now, the real beauty of this is, my husband has been talking about getting tree in the backyard. This will eventually fit the bill!

Do you think that Lilac would grow in south Florida?

Thank you! Like I said, it still needs work, but it's coming along.

Nice!

I love your garden!

I think there was a Barbie when I was growing up that had accessories that smelled like lilacs. I'm not sure which one it was though.

Thanks!

I'm not sure either, but it sounds lovely! I have a Barbie that has a bit of an apple scent to her.
