Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
J. R. R. Tolkien - The Lord of The Rings
Good Thought for the Day
Until life is at its end, there is always hope.
Random Thought for Today
Fantasy can be good for refreshing the soul, but it's never wise to allow
fantasy to become ones reality.
Quotes of the Day
People
"For myself, I was probably most moved by Sam's disquisition
on the seamles web of story, and by the scene when Frodo goes to sleep on
his breast, and the tragedy of Gollum who at that moment came within a hair
of repentance--but for one rough word from Sam."

Literature
"I pass the test," she said. "I will diminish, and go into the West and remain Galadriel"
J. R. R. Tolkien - The Lord of the Rings
But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn am I, Éomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.
J. R. R. Tolkien - The Lord of the Rings
Lyrics
May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely road
Oh! How far you are from home

We now return you to the regularly scheduled rambling LJ entry for the
day......

Half a billion at the box office world wide, it's on every critics MUST SEE list, yet, why do I see another Annie Hall - Star Wars thing at the Oscars?
I just watched the Enya video for "May It Be." Very cool, it's on the soundtrack site and needs Apple Quick Time to run it.
Today's daily dose of destiny for yesterday: "Take yourself on a mental adventure today, Cathy, in which you explore new realms of your world. Engage in discussions about philosophy and religion. Get to the core of a matter that seriously interests you. Now is a good time to consider taking classes or engaging in some form of higher learning. Your emotions are coming from a point of great power and you should use this energy wisely."
Most interesting... I've been doing a great deal of reading of late. Mostly old legends and historical things. I have always told my children that if you can reading, you can learn many things from reading books.
Thanks to
Stacy for this one,
Names
Your name of Catherine makes you easy-going and refined, but detracts from
your physical vitality. You desire all the finer things in life--lovely clothes,
home, furniture, and environment. However, procrastination is your worst
enemy, and you find yourself lacking the ambition to make your dreams a reality.
People are inclined to take advantage of your sympathetic, tractable nature.
You naturally attract people with problems who seek your understanding and
advice. You can give good advice although it is unlikely that you would follow
it yourself. You would be most successful in situations where you can use
your skills in diplomacy in handling people, but where you are not under
pressure or required to carry responsibility and make decisions. It is difficult
for you to be individual and make your own decisions, for you lack
self-confidence. Your desire for sweet, rich foods could cause overweight,
circulatory problems, or weakness in the kidneys.
Ok, I'm going with the crowd and here's my quiz,

The first time I read that I got goosebumps all over. Eowyn was a woman to look up to, to aspire to. She was what I wanted to be. And years later, how many times as a mother, or a sister, or a daughter, cousin, friend or lover have I stood fast saying similar words to those who would hurt the ones I love.
Also, on those days when I don't feel so strong, when I feel as if I will crumble at any moment...I read that quote out loud...many times...in a more and more fierce voice...changing a few words here and there to help me steal myself against whatever is bringing me down. It's empowering.
Hurray for words!

Re: I am woman, hear me roar...and shake with fear.
Date: 2002-01-27 05:23 pm (UTC)My aunt gave me a wonderful paper doll book when I was nine. It was filled with paper dolls of famous women in history...women who did things on their own and changed our world in the process. Like Amelia Earhardt, Sappho, Queen Boddica(sp?), Queens Elizabeth and Victoria, Lady Murasaki (the first novelist ever in the history of man was a woman), Golda Mier (sp?) and Marie Curie to name a few.
I'd love someone to put together a paper doll book of women in books and plays who are good role models too. That would be keen. (I'll get to work on it I think.)
