My son-in-law, Chris, calls his grandma Meme. She passed this along. I know there are at least four grandparents on my FL, the rest of y'all might get a kick out of this, too.

Memories

Charlton Helston is dead. I think what impressed me most in the news article is that he was married to the same woman for 64 years.

Today would have been my paternal grandmother's birthday. She passed on last year.

My husband sent me this link  because I'm a packrat. I'm glad to know that I'm not even in that woman's league! My first reaction to the guy's bitching is... "If you don't like it, move the hell out." Yes, the woman has serious issues, but if he's a freaking adult, I have to wonder what's the excuse that he can't take himself out of the situation.

Friday, we did Bennigan's for dinner and then went over to Hastings. I got Tommy and Tuppence Set 2 on DVD. If you are an Agatha Christie buff, you probably know who they are. They are my favorites of her detectives. My next bunch of DVD viewings is going to be Smallville. Tom now has seasons 1-6. Picked up 6 for 19.99 at Wal-mart.

I'm amazed at how much "old" stuff that my mother likes is in the 5 dollar bins at Wal-mart. I found a Platters CD and a DVD with a collection of Alfred Hitchcock films.  Maybe that makes me sound cheap, but I rather buy something inexpensive that I know she will like as opposed to pricey that she'll look at with that "What am I supposed to do with this" expression. We've all seen that look on someone's face at least once!

It's a semi-normal day around here. However, it's not everyday that you have spent 27 years with someone. Anniversary 27. Scary, huh?

Last night I sat out with the candy as I usually do. We got at least 60 trick or treaters, but we live in a primarily military neighborhood so there are lots of kids around. I sat out for two reasons, dog and ditch. No doorbell or knocking means the pooch stays relatively quiet. Sitting out means that the kids don't cross the yard, where we have a drainage ditch they can fall into. Thankfully, in Texas it's warm in October to someone that grew up in PA. I ended up with a sweater on. Not because I was cold, but because the mosquitoes wanted to eat me!

Cutest costume was a tie between a toddler girl dressed as a poodle and a four or five year  boy old dressed Harry Potter. Most adorable trick or treater was a little girl dressed as Jeannie (I Dream of Jeannie). She did that crossed arms and popped the ponytail thing just like Barbara Eden did in the TV show! Most original costume I saw was a reporter, she was dressed to the nines in heels and carrying a microphone and interviewed people. Prettiest one was a salsa dancer, the dress reminded me of Rose's ball gown in Titanic.

The Jeannie thing prompted me to look up Barbara Eden. Ms. Eden, IMO, is a classic beauty. I doubt she's ever had a bit of plastic surgery and is still lovely in her seventies.  Brittany Spears and a few others should take a lesson there.

Mattel's Jeannie Barbie is one I'd like to get my hands on some day.

And who knew that that the "I Dream of Jeannie" theme had lyrics? Doesn't really surprise me since Star Trek and Bonanza did. That brings back memories. My grandfather used to watch  Bonanza and Gunsmoke every Sunday night. Anyone of the family was welcome to watch, but it was an unspoken rule that you didn't  talk while in the TV room. If you wanted to socialize, you went into the kitchen.

Today is my Grandma's birthday. I need to make and get that vase out to her.

The plumber is here to put in the hot water heater. YAY!!

I'm having fun with Open For Business. I found a trailer park lot someone made. It's going to prove to be an interesting endeavor. It has five buildings, so.... small house or two, one salon, one flower shop....  and maybe a robot shop. We'll see what happens. I also used that lot in University for a rental. Semi-private housing for students, yet, they live together. I like it. Someone also did a campground, but I forget where I found it.

I finally replaced my old mini-cassette player. I'll be much more careful with this one, I hope.

We did our taxes over at Jackson and Hewitt this year. I have been telling Kevin for years that the standard deduction works out best for us, but we go through the same song and dance every year. The tax man said that people that have similar income to our household and are getting money back probably have expensive houses with big ass interest payments or spousal/child support payments to deduct. So, for once he had to admit that I've been right all these years. However, the IRA gave us a nice deduction to work with and we owe less the 300 as opposed to 4000 for last year.

YAY! The water heater is hereby installed!

Update on LJ project. - one filter is closed up.  I have tagged and realigned the filters on posts from 2000 and from Jan-4 Nov 2001.

So, I'm off to pick up the place a bit and play Sims for a while before I make dinner.

This is the anniversary of the birth of my Aunt Sandy, my father's sister. I say anniversary and not birthday because she passed away a couple of years ago. Cancer of some sort in her brain.

I have fond memories of her. Her special talent was her ability to draw. She was the first professional draftswoman in the area of Pennsylvania we lived in.

I think one of the saddest things is that my grandmother's memory is such that sometimes she doesn't remember Aunt Sandy is gone. When they have to tell her that she won't be coming to see her, she cries.

Wednesday night, I got one of those calls we all dread. My maternal grandmother passed away earlier in the day. Mom said that she had been in the hospital for some time. Seems that Grandma pulled off her oxygen mask one day and said, "I'm ready to go home." Mom says she thinks she meant ready to die, not go to her house.

I miss her, but somehow I feel more upset about not being as upset as I should be. I saw her two years ago and something told me it was a matter of time. She had had a stroke not long before that and lost use of her arm. A few of the doctors said that she could have gotten up and about if she wanted with the help of nurses, but I don't think she wanted to. After it was necessary to put her in a nursing home, I think she decided the hell with things. Having been through something similiar with my car wreck, I can understand why she felt that way.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but my daughter told me that the young men, age 17, that killed her friend, Jamie, will face the death penalty. I know that some people don't support the death penalty, but I have to wonder if these two eventually get out of prison if they will kill anyone else. They are trying to use an insanity defense because they were high. Pardon me, but that's totally fucked up.

Life for the rest of us goes on... strange as that may seem.
