The Shape of Things to Come
Professional and personal change are stressed this November, and it's better to be bold and take the initiative than to stand still and simply react. You find yourself more comfortable in your own skin now, making you more alluring to others.

Interesting, no?

Here are the highlights:

We celebrated 29 years of marriage on Sunday.
We did Thai for dinner on Saturday afternoon.
I handed out candy on Saturday night.
The boys had their annual "Halloween" RP on Sunday.
I have two pieces to post/finish for LT. I have other characters creeping into my head.
I need to get with a couple of RP buddies to sort a few things out.
I have the Monday drill to do. It's a recycling week.
No idea what I'll fix for dinner. I'll think of something.
I have this much progress achieved in NaNoWriMo
763 / 50000 words. 2% done! It'll be posted somewhere or other.

This is our 28th wedding anniversary. Kinda makes me wonder where the time went!

We were invited, last minute, to attend a wedding tonight. It's informal, we are at least going to go and see them get married. It's at the local American Legion hall.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] chaselemonde and [livejournal.com profile] nikkinicola!

"Men, can't live with them, can't shoot them, or you can't collect the insurance!" -- CAK
Ladies, feel free to borrow that!

I need to search for one of my Irish Fairy Tale books by Leslie Conron. Last I saw it, it was in my suitcase on the way home from Kentucky.

I have so many projects that I would like to work on and can't wrap my brain around them. I have things I should and/or want to do like... I'd like to get a bunch of odd cleaning projects done. One of these days, I'll post a list. Oh, wait.. .that's more procrastination.

Meanwhile, here are some funnies!

It's a semi-normal day around here. However, it's not everyday that you have spent 27 years with someone. Anniversary 27. Scary, huh?

Last night I sat out with the candy as I usually do. We got at least 60 trick or treaters, but we live in a primarily military neighborhood so there are lots of kids around. I sat out for two reasons, dog and ditch. No doorbell or knocking means the pooch stays relatively quiet. Sitting out means that the kids don't cross the yard, where we have a drainage ditch they can fall into. Thankfully, in Texas it's warm in October to someone that grew up in PA. I ended up with a sweater on. Not because I was cold, but because the mosquitoes wanted to eat me!

Cutest costume was a tie between a toddler girl dressed as a poodle and a four or five year  boy old dressed Harry Potter. Most adorable trick or treater was a little girl dressed as Jeannie (I Dream of Jeannie). She did that crossed arms and popped the ponytail thing just like Barbara Eden did in the TV show! Most original costume I saw was a reporter, she was dressed to the nines in heels and carrying a microphone and interviewed people. Prettiest one was a salsa dancer, the dress reminded me of Rose's ball gown in Titanic.

The Jeannie thing prompted me to look up Barbara Eden. Ms. Eden, IMO, is a classic beauty. I doubt she's ever had a bit of plastic surgery and is still lovely in her seventies.  Brittany Spears and a few others should take a lesson there.

Mattel's Jeannie Barbie is one I'd like to get my hands on some day.

And who knew that that the "I Dream of Jeannie" theme had lyrics? Doesn't really surprise me since Star Trek and Bonanza did. That brings back memories. My grandfather used to watch  Bonanza and Gunsmoke every Sunday night. Anyone of the family was welcome to watch, but it was an unspoken rule that you didn't  talk while in the TV room. If you wanted to socialize, you went into the kitchen.

I realized last night that I haven't posted much lately. I promised myself a week off after the wedding and I took it!

I have a to do list a mile long. Yesterday, I got most of my laundry caught up and cleaned out the master bedroom and bath. I haven't gotten to the heavy duty projects like closet cleaning, yet.

Today, more laundry ... living room and kitchen. Fun!

6:23 PM

Laundry still rolling, LR done and kitchen mostly done.

10:33 PM

I still have lots of things that need doing around the house, but other than the second bathroom and a few things in the kitchen I'm not worried about them.

Here's my to do list for the next few days.
Kitchen - fridge
Main bathroom - the works
Still more laundry (Took Tom's suit and my gown to the cleaners already)
Clean my office  (clear out crap)
Mail out bills
Post wedding photos (make CDs and mail them)
Catch up on e-mail and other correspondence
Find orange bowl for Halloween treats. Know where it is, need to get it out.
Return library materials to post and drop off gift books to hospital
Drop off Goodwill contributions.
Find out what Tom did with the gift cards for the boys.
Have Gabe's handheld game ready to give back to him.
Writing, writing, and MORE Writing!

So... here's a bit of silliness.

First of all, Happy Halloween to all of you. Merry Samhain to those that celebrate it.
Being a Muppet fan, I found this amusing. Some people might be offended by by the weirdos things. Those that know me well, though, would just be thinking they are getting in the boat with me. ;)

Last year I participated in NaNoWriMo, but this year I won't be. I discovered that while I can write 50,000 plus words in a month, it's not necessarily on the same subject or in the same story. While I do have plans to write in at least three different fiction projects as well as writing in my journals, I am going to try to make use of my time, that I'm not cleaning house, etc., to read and work on my crafts. I have several projects I want to work on.

It's 2:39 so, I'm going to go soak my feet and watch The Lake House.

6:34PM

Movie was good, thought provoking. Definite chick flick.

7:36 PM

Ended up having to hunt down the Treat or Treat candy and giving it out. Tom was supposed to be doing it. The Playdoh was a hit!

Off to get started on some of that writing.

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] mummm for the pumpkin on my profile! :)

Tomorrow is Halloween and the city has the "safe trick or treat" downtown beginning at 5:30 PM. I am armed with 2 bags of candy (candy bracelets with ghosts on them) and a bowl of mini Playdoh containers. We don't get a lot of kids out our way anymore, so that should be more than enough for the 6PM-9PM run about. I go outside and sit on the back of the car as it is easier than having to haul the dog away from the door every time the kids go through.

Interesting news on CNN while I was waiting to get my ID card renewed. Seems a few states have now passed laws requiring registered sex offenders to not place any decorations (or turn their porch lights on) that might attract children to their homes. I think they also said they are prohibited from helping at public events that are geared toward children.

A few quotes:

"A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water. "
--- Eleanor Roosevelt, American First Lady

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. "
--- Eleanor Roosevelt, American First Lady

"Anyone that is great at anything does it for their own approval."
-- Gil Grissom   C.S.I.

If those strike a chord, run with it... but one of them, the last, is for my own benefit.

I really should take the time to write down my craft ideas. Things like:
Oven door in a Barbie stove should have an opening in for viewing like some real ones do. Whipstitch the edge of the opening, but slide a piece of clear plastic between front and back door parts then stitch the pieces together.

Thinking about making a few of my own patterns for bookmarks and covers. Maybe incorporate some of the cross-stitch or needlepoint motifs that are already in my books.

Need to remember to scan and print the ten square grid to practice the patterns.

For those who celebrate Samhain, may the bonfires glow brightly for you, if only in your hearts. May any spirits that drop by to visit be friendly ones.

For those that celebrate Halloween, may the trick or treaters not egg or TP your house. May you experience the wonder of the day through the eyes of a child, especially the child within yourself.

Trick-or-Treat
Trick-or-treating is an Irish tradition, based on a custom where the wealthy would give food to the poor people of the village on Halloween night. They believed that the spirits would see this act of kindness and leave them alone. It was around the 1800s when this custom came to the United States.
