Friday night I turned in early. If you know me fairly well then you know 11 PM is EARLY for me. I woke up sometime between 3:30 and  4 AM. Strange nightmare about someone trying to break into the Explorer via the tailgate while we were in it. Couldn't go right back to sleep after that.

Random Babbling and Other Craziness )

Another something or other, who knows?

I'm picking up the house, the phone company is supposed to be out here by 2:30 to fix the phone fiasco. Weird thing about this is that in the past few days I have had calls from a number in the 717 area code. It traces to something called the United Phone Company of PA. Go figure. *69  is a wonderful feature.  There's something really twisted about a phone company calling me and my phone line going weird.  One of those hmmm things.

So, I'm going to be destructively constructive and make use of the new paper shredder.

2:46 PM

The phone seems to be working fine now. Note I said seems. It drives me nuts when I ask people to call so I can put the dog outside or in the bedroom away from what needs to be worked on and they don't call. This is twice. At least it's not a case of the phone company just canceling like Time Warner did. I tested the phones. Working ok. Now, get this....  I called the status line for Embarq and it turns out this was not a problem at my home, but with a main cable from their central office. My phone lines, despite being in the same house and using the same wiring set up, are hooked into different cables. I think I'm going to be glad of that. It might prove useful in the future.

7:41 PM

House is picked up. I have hamburger for dinner defrosting, should be eating in about 45 minutes. I left the folding table up in the garage to help push along the cleaning of the cabinets.

9:29 PM: Food is waiting to reheat for the other half.

9:42 PM: Other half home and preparing to do battle with his food.

I'm thinking about doing some scent experiments for soap projects, but after I get my craft cabinets done.

I'm pleased to say ::knocks wood:: that the great bathroom clean out of 2008 worked on day one.

3:55 AM

Yes, yes, insomnia, but on the good side, I accomplished quite a bit around the house on Thursday. Even indulged in Lost and some RP.

Today, Friday, I'm going to tidy my house. Hopefully, I'll get one of the craft cabinets cleaned and after Tom gets home take my ass to Wal-mart for this.

Fish sticks and fries for dinner tonight. I have mail to write.

The fan in my computer case has gone stewpid. It's not essential to the machine, it's more of an extra precaution. However, should I disappear from the internet for a while, you'll know why. There's a shop in the next town where I can buy the part and replace it, but not until Tom has the day off. It's a matter of replacing four screws and plugging it in. Oh, yes, as friend said, gotta wear shoes. It's an inside joke.

I bagged and tagged up to July 2005. There are weird quizzes all over my LJ, if you'd like to poke about in them that's a tag link.

I did my grocery shopping on Saturday evening. Caught up the laundry on Sunday while the boys were in the game room. I worked for several hours in the garage Monday. ZOMG... I can get to the fuse box again!! Even Kevin remarked on the vast improvement. I put a pile of recyclables out and one can of paint for bulk trash. There are several boxes left to sort, but that there's wide space to walk around in makes a huge difference! And so, two weeks from now, I'll do more out there, I hope.

Decided to take the garage in sections, sort of. I am leaving the cabinets ( two for crafts and the third has misc. hardware, gardening  equipment and dry pet food) for last. No point in pulling things out of them before the mess in the center is done. Tom can scrub the mini-fridge.

I slapped the moo out of some nice steaks for dinner. I heard that phrase at a Ryan's and have been using it since.

And now, at nearly midnight, I have earned the relaxation time. I showered with Lavender Chamomile and washed my hair with Lavender Vanilla.  I have China Moon incense burning and Madagascar Vanilla Red Rooibos Tea to drink. I like Celestial Seasons teas, they are soothing and bring back memories of hours of tea drinking with my great grandmother in her kitchen.

I have eight days to listen to five audiobooks. Halfway through with two of them. Should be able to return at least one on Wed.

Finished one part of the story I was writing and suddenly found myself wanting to write two more parts instead of one. Uh, yeah, I think that is good, no?

So, Tuesday's list:
Keep the laundry caught up.
Do a general run through the house for cleaning.
Marinate and grill the chicken.
I dumped the fridge not too long ago, so I'll wait on that.

Hopefully, while I'm cleaning up I'll be able to find one of these audiobooks.

Wednesday, the car needs an oil change. Since it's a payday for me, I'm going to buy that dang 8 ft. fiberglass ladder. If nothing else I will be able to change most of the light bulbs by myself! One of the bad things about being just a little over five feet tall, always tooooooooo short to do things!
yellowrosetx: (Default)
I got almost everything done on my to do list  on Wednesday. Since I was going to be out of the house in the afternoon, I got Subway and dropped it off for Kevin's dinner.  Stopped at the bank as I was planning to send Tom to one end of the mall while I was at the other, cash was needed. We stopped at Target and got him nice warm shirts, etc. for work. Did I mention he got a job? Stopping at Target negated the need for the Home Depot/Lowe's trip as they had the appliance bulbs I needed for the fridge. The UHBS was done before I left.

At the mall, I sent Tom, who walks a whole LOT faster than I do to Sears auto center to look for an ice scraper and to the game/book stores to find a book for Guild Wars which is what Kevin is now playing instead of WoW. No ice scrapers to be found, I expected  that. How hard is it for my husband to understand that they are few and far between in TX and he should have taken better care of the one he already stole from Tom's car bin AND the one I got him at the PX auto center. No, he has to go poking in the garage and take what WAS Tom's extra one. Men.. Gah... I need to look in the large box that we used to have in the van and see what's what.

I hit Bath and Body Works for the $5 sale on most of their Signature line. Mom and Dad sent me some money for Christmas and that's where I spent my loot. I got two of their new fragrance Chocolate Amber in shower gel and Sensual Amber in  bubble bath (I wanted shower gel and grabbed the wrong bottle).  The aromatherapy shampoo was also on sale; I snagged two bottles (Tranquil Mint and Lavender Vanilla). They now have a dollar rack. Be afraid. That means ... yes... gifties!! I do gift baskets every so often, especially for my girls. B&BW  had a new preview item called Enchanting Orchid. Kinda reminds me of Lily of the Valley. I also snagged two items of a brand I'd never heard of called the Savannah Bee Company; Mint Julep (made with peach kernel, pecan and sweet almond oils.) body lotion and Clementine (made with honey and sweet almond milk) body wash.

I remembered the bulbs for the fridge. Was supposed to drop off a couple of things at Goodwill, but somehow, we passed the place on the way home. Couldn't find the book for Guild Wars that Kevin wanted. Tom is going to get the groceries on his way home from work.  If it's not raining again, I'll take the next bunch of minis out to the game room.

Already? This week went by quickly. Maybe a bit too quickly.

Tom returned stuff at the library for me on Wednesday. Much to my annoyance I discovered that the rest of what I had out was due Thursday, so, off to the library I went to return one and renew the other. I have two CDs left in Daughter of Fortune. I picked up Unhinged, The Lady Vanishes, Ines of my Soul, and Dragon Rider.

Bagged and tagged Feb 2005 LJ entries.

I made that trip to Big Lots. I picked out two Sauder Multimedia Storage Towers for Kevin's Warhammer and other minis. Picked up two large storage bins. One for gift wrap and much of the packing supplies that I have in the garage and the other for terrain and other things that need to go out to the game room. I figure once the minis are safely in their new home that I can start the ripping apart of a lot of areas in the garage to at least make it easier to walk around and move in there.

I have a blue carpet out there that can be put down in Kevin's den. At least it can be used to muffle the echoing hollow sounds that ring off the walls when Kevin plays his guitar.

Today's game plan:
Pot roast for dinner.
Put together those storage units, get them in building, start moving minis, etc. to the game room.

I have a dream sequence story idea brewing, but I don't think it will be posted publicly.

More later.

I hope the new year has started well for everyone!

Goal progress:

I finished at least three story pieces and have one poking at my head.
I finished the new book, The Amber Spyglass. I'm still listening to Inkspell, but I don't honestly recall if I have read it before or not! Started No Place Like Home by Fern Michaels.
I wrote two personal letters. I think e-mail should count after all as long as it's personal.
My house is in better order than normal. Why's that scare me?
Not exactly working on menus, yet, but we are using up the things in the cabinets and freezer which was the main goal.
I read two more chapters in Voyager by Diana Gabaldon
I got some work done on the photo album covers.

More stuff on the Daily Babble )
yellowrosetx: (Default)
I have somewhat of a difficult piece of writing to do. It might take me a while to get it done. It will probably be easier than trying to remember everything that needs to be said if it was going to be done in a live RP session. While it's great to get that one on one reaction,  it can leave pieces missing that need to be addressed.

I need to make sure that the water bill is ready to go when Tom heads for church today. Also have a couple of Christmas cards to drop in the mail.

Have to get the fridge squared away. Meat needs to be repacked and frozen. We have a turkey to pick up that is the Christmas gift for company Kevin works for.

Listening to Inkspell, the sequel to Inkheart.

I'm working on the cover for the blue photo album. Once that's done I can put away all but four colors of yarn and get going on the less detailed pieces of canvas.

That's about it for now.
yellowrosetx: (Default)
Friday morning, the father-in-law called. Kevin answered. I must have heard him say, "Yes, I'm home, I don't leave for work for another hour," at least a half dozen times. He said he got the impression that the FIL wanted to talk to me, but never asked. He said something about Christmas presents being on the way. Now, I feel silly because they told us not to send presents last year and the only thing I'll be sending to them is the pictures from Liz's wedding. Ah well. Must think of something.

I've been wrapping and preparing gifts for mailing. I have Mom and Dad's stuff ready to mail as well as everything to go to Jess and Aaron. I have Tyler and Logan's stuff boxed but I don't have the packing material in it, yet.

I have a lot of my cards ready to roll. I hope to have all family packages out by Monday and all cards out by next Friday. Note that I said hope.  The earlier the better, less lines at the PO.

Still working on the photo album. The front is coming along nicely! I'm about halfway through with it.  Mother Goose is starting to take shape and I have all the lettering done. I'm going to either sew a lining inside it or make a backing out of plastic canvas.

Tried listening to a few audio books, but for some reason they didn't capture my attention.  Current one is The Golden Compass. I think I'm going to look for the Dark is Rising as well as the Harry Potter books I don't have on CD.

Tuesday's to do list

UHBS

Grocery store trip (need more CD mailers, milk, lunches for Kevin, and laundry soap, possibly other things)

Library drop off and switch out.

Might get a couple of boxes mailed

Need to record Bones and House so Kevin can watch them when he gets home.

Dinner will be Chili Mac and some kind of rice and corn dish that I have in the cupboard. I plan on eating early and leaving plates in the oven for the boys.

Hopefully, there will be time for RP once my list is done for the day.
yellowrosetx: (Default)

I'm going off to J.C. Penney's today for a few things including a long slip. Can't find the Pure Allure roses that I wanted to use to make my necklace, BUT while digging in the boxes I remembered that I have something that will work out beautifully. I have several pieces of crystal jewelry that I purchased a few years ago including those given as gifts. When my Aunt Sandy passed away a few years ago, I inherited a lot of her jewelry including a pendant and earrings crystal set that I had given her as a present. They have blooming roses on them.

Need to run through the house quick (put away laundry, get the dishwasher running, etc.), take a quick count of cash on hand, put a new checkbook in the cover and get out and shop. Need to get gyros to Kevin for dinner. There's a shop in the mall that serves decent ones. The better place is downtown, but EVERY time I go there without the husband the guy is closed.  In fact, an old guy that popped by informed me that the owner often closes after lunch. The Spousal Unit pretty much tried to call me a liar over it. Apparently, some people at work told him that they were there and he was open.  Tom spoke up and told him that he had been there not once but several times with me and the place was closed. I mean the guy doesn't even turn off his open sign when he locks up. I'm not going there without him again.

6:51 PM

YES!! Shoe shopping was a success and of all places, I found them at Target!! [livejournal.com profile] jilicious had suggested bronze which caused me to remember that metallics mix nicely with a lot of colors and fabrics. I stopped there to pick up a couple of things and figured ... why not look. The shoes have a bit more of a heel than I wanted, but they fit nicely. I went with pewter. Decided on different jewelry. Will be wearing a piece of from each of my kids. Need to see if I can find prismatic crystal heart earrings to go with necklace Tom gave me for Mother's Day last year. The silver floating hearts might work in a pinch.

Need to take the dress in and have it hemmed up an inch or two. Turns out that it has a slip built into the dress as an underlayer. Going to have my hair trimmed and colored tomorrow or Saturday. That means I can also do a bit of shopping in Wal-mart. Been thinking garment bag for my dress, but if I pack it carefully in the bag it came in it will be just fine.

Oh, yes, Wednesday.

I have my to do list written up. Going to make some sort of pork for dinner. That's what I'm thawing. Probably white wine with garlic, maybe a touch of cheese.

to do list )

So, yes,  Wednesday is a bit busy.

Listening to both Rosie Dunne  (disc 2) and Honest Illusions (tape 1). Actually reading a paper book for a change, Irish Gold by Andrew Greeley (about half through).

I feel the need to write a story or two, but nothing is quite ready yet. Several characters raising their hands and saying, "Me, yes, me," but nothing clear at the moment.
yellowrosetx: (Default)

Let's start today with something silly:
Slightly risque funnies! )

For those that enjoy the writing of Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series, you might want to listen to the podcast from her. She's discussing her Lord John series, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I seem to me having one of those male/female disconnection days. So help me, if my son whines at me again when I ask him to help out around here, I'm going to pop him one. I told him, last night, that we needed to get the sand bags of the car. They've only been in there since what.. Monday, Tuesday?

I ended up taking the sand out of the car myself.

Used up the last of the rib eye for a crock pot dinner.

Bagging and tagging is done up to 3 June 2004, only three years to catch up! My tag list is getting longer and my filter list smaller. From some reason only 2005 has a year tag, I'm not sure why, but I'm leaving it alone. The tag list is on my friends page and my main journal page. So, if anyone has a hankering to look up off the wall quizzes or anything, have fun.

Monday, we went for dinner at Giovanni's, a local Italian restaurant, saw a few people I haven't in a while. Maybe more on that later.

Still listening to The Red Hat Club by Haywood Smith.

I'm really beginning to appreciate my nearby Big Lots store! I picked up the gifts for the flower girls. Liz couldn't decide between her niece and her goddaughter, so she is having both. I got a small Care Bear and a Barbie for each.

I got 70 of the 100 favor tags done. Go figure, 3 sheets went stupid in the printer. Easy fix, I need to get more and print them. Printed directions from the airport, etc. to the castle. So, that's good to go. Will get those in the mail soon. I need to get her more stamps.

Two of the three packages I sent out the other day were logged as having arrived on the tracking receipts. I just dropped a text message via LJ to the third person. If that doesn't work, I might be asking who has an alternate contact for that  LJ friend.

I got a small bit of writing done today. I want to do more. I have a few characters wanting to get out of my head.

Dear Charlie Brown,

People keep stealing the football away either because you have too much faith in them or because you let them get away with it.

Dear Lucy,

People that charge a nickel for psychological advice need to remember that their clients are getting what they pay for.

Dear Linus,

Dear Lucy,

Quit stealing the damn football.

Now, maybe a lot of IQs have slipped around the world, but mine hasn't. My memory slips a bit, but not THAT much. Pristine, unused ammunition couldn't have been fired at anyone. Yes, yes, it says.. HIT her house, but the natural assumption is that they were fired and that just hain't so.

So, I'm weary. Dinner at Nami was very good. Between that and the shower I took with Bath and Body Works Sensuous Amber before I went out, I feel better. Maybe it was letting my frustration out at the person that caused it. I'm trying to not let other people's issues get me down because when they do, I end up passing my frustration on to other people. That is not a good thing.

Sunday is gaming day for the boys, so I will pretty much have the house to myself. I need to reply to a couple of comments that have been rumbling in my head. I still have some writing to catch up on, but with two characters out of my head, the ground work  laid   out for two more, that leaves the old wench and her daughter. Speaking of those two, behind the cut is one of my favorite Sims that was born in the game!

I spent a bit of time looking for celebrity Sims for both my game and some RP stuff. It's an adventure, let me tell you! I found some that were almost a perfect likeness of the subjects and some that had me going... They have a funny idea of what celebrity X looks like

Sunday horoscope:
A part of you is trying very hard to hang on tightly to the past, CATHY. Be careful of being so adamant about this that you do not allow anything new to enter into your life. There is important information coming your way. Although this information is unexpected, and perhaps even uninvited, it is most likely extremely important for you to listen and understand. Use it to get your mind buzzing with new ideas - you can only benefit!

I'm wondering if that information has already been passed along because I'm already buzzing with ideas I'm trying to sort them out!

Bagged and tagged up to Jan. 2004.

Got the dog taken care of and most of that wood out of the yard for bulk trash. I kept a few pieces in case we need them for the flower frame. Some might call it a flower box, but it's just a 2x4 wooden frame to keep my husband from running things over with the mower. If it doesn't rain we'll get the next section done on Saturday.  I'll buzz the weeds and do the hauling. Tom can do the planting.

Tried the Biscuit Taco Cups recipe, it's really good!
Finished Everything's Eventual by Stephen King. Started Just Rewards by Barbara Taylor Bradford.

So, for some reason my Sims 2 game kept tripping a "no signal" error on my monitor. No other software kicks this error, just that game. So, you computer people, any thoughts on that? Keep in mind that I usually do hear sound when it fizzes. I'm going through and dumping empty, duplicate, and unreadable files. I'm hoping that clears up the problem.

Not much else to say right now. More later.

I've got two characters out of my head for the moment and can move on to the others, sort of. Some changes need to be made to pieces that I had already started, but I think it would be better to clear it all out of my head at one time. That will cover two of them. That leaves two still poking at my head and one trying to make up her mind. Don't ask, if you don't RP or don't write, I can't explain it.

Finished chapter 11 of Bright Orange for the Shroud by John D. MacDonald.
On disc 8 of Everything's Eventual by Stephen King.

I got everything done away from home that I planned to. Shopping done, bills dropped off and uniform retrieved from the cleaners. I have the ingredients for the taco thingies.  I think I'll fix them tomorrow. Tonight, however, it's Hamburger Helper Chili Mac and some of that yummy Pilsbury French Loaf. Something quick, but it's a group favorite.

I had plans of getting a few things done in the yard, but noooooooo.... it started raining about five minutes after I got my haul from the store into the house and dropped the bag of potting soil in the yard near the "flower bed." In fact, the drizzle started while I was unloading the soil. Makes me glad I had the sense to drive the car around back, unload the groceries through the patio door, and haul ass out of there!

So, Friday, we wash the dog and get some yardwork done... if it's not soggy out there. If nothing else we should be able to get the better part of that mess of wood out of the yard.

10 PM
Sunday, Kevin is bringing the stones in for the sidewalk to go from the patio out to the game room. I just want the new patio door before one of the youngins slides this one too hard and I am wondering who gets to clean the glass.

I finished this needlework project and am pretty pleased with the final product! I'm trying to decide if I'm going to add anything else to the package besides this. At any rate, those a part of the poll items. Mailing 5 of 10. They will be on their way to their new home in Michigan in the near future.
yellowrosetx: (Default)

Finished bagging and tagging all of 2003, only 3 1/2 years of journal to go!!

I have almost all of one color finished on my current needlework project.

So, I'm going to post a bunch of recipes partly to clear my e-mail box, trying to write something, get more needlework done and maybe play Sims 2. The game seems to be crashing the video card for some reason. I hope it's not one of the hacks I installed. Then again, it that's all it is, it's an easy fix.
