I discovered that if you fry a voice post that it still counts against your total for the month, which is 20 for paid accounts. Ah well, live and learn.

Bagged and tagged to Jan 12 2006.

Figured out what to do with that one character that was in limbo, well sorta, and the other two that were stuck. Might spend the weekend writing, well Sunday anyway. Must make notes. Researched a few medieval things at this web site. http://www.florilegium.org/

The new Barnes and Noble opens next Wednesday. Rumor has it Sims 2: Apartment Life is due out the 27th.

Need to pay bills and get to post office by Monday.

Watched Pride and Prejudice with Ehle and Firth again. Still love it!

Did a bit of needlework and reading. One more panel to stitch on the pink photo album.

Going to go listen to Johnny Dollar and play a game. 4:20 AM

7:06 PM

I lazed about today, we had Domino's pizza for dinner.

I have four LT characters to write for. One of them, I know what I'm doing. More on that later.

I hauled out an old SEB character and took her over to DM. She played designated driver for a friend of hers. It was hilarious to see him hitting on all the women! :D

1:21 AM

Well, I'm going to try to write or something...

Today is Veteran's Day. A day for remembering and being thankful for the sacrifices made on our behalf by the men and women that have served in the Armed Forces. Nanny used to refer to this day as Armistice Day, until I was older, I didn't know why. When you are a kid, what you understand most is ... day off from school. Armistice Day commemorates the signing of the treaty (or armistice) that ended World War I.

A bit of trivia, in my senior year of high school, the last football game of the season was at the homefield of our arch rival on Nov. 11, 1977. The score was 19-18. We won. I just find it interesting that the score was the same as the year the war ended and the game was on the same day.

Now.. to get all Emily Littella on this... What's all this fuss about the pledge of allegiance again? It seems student leaders at Orange Coast College have decide to restrict the Freedom of Speech of their fellow students. Oh, yes, I know... only Congress is not allowed to do that according to the Constitution and these young people have opted to ban it at their meetings. Apparently it only applies to meetings of the student board of trustees and no other groups on campus.

A school official had this to say:

Martha Parham, a spokeswoman for the Coast Community College District, said her office had no standing on the student board and took no position on the flag salute ban.

"If their personal belief is that they don't want to say the Pledge of Allegiance, the district certainly isn't going to dictate what they do," she said.

I just want to know when colleges started being in districts like public schools.

Isn't California where the atheist doctor was from that tried to say making his daughter say the pledge violated her rights? What scares me about that is we have a doctor that didn't bother to do the most basic research into his case history. His daughter didn't object to saying under God because she was raised as a Christian, therefore, it wasn't really violating her rights at all. I think it's freaking hilarious that a man who calls himself the Rev. Dr. Michael Newdow is an atheist.

Wasn't it also in California where all this mess started about one man/one woman after the rumblings in Washington? California had it built into the state constitution and there was San Fransisco, one of its own cities challenging it.

The Declaration of Independence has this nice little thing in it about "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." As long as someone's pursuit of happiness does no harm to anyone else, I just don't see the fuss. I mean really... all this crap now has probably set off a chain reaction that wasn't expected. In some state, it's now a nono to marry and/or have a domestic partnership with a person of the same gender. Well, how does one define a domestic partnership? Does this now mean that parents will have to worry their college student offspring needing to be bailed out at same point for having a roommate of the same gender? I bet they weren't thinking about that when they went to the polls to say no to gay marriage, etc.

And people laughed when we, here in Texas, voted for allowing concealed handguns with permits? Statistics have proven that crime has gone down. We hear far less about car jackings. Why? Well.... if you have any working brain cells, you'd be wondering if you do try to jack a car on the highway if it will be the last time you ever do anything. I'm surprised that more states didn't jump on that bandwagon and say... "Hey, this could work for us." This not to say that handgun ownership is the solution to everything, it's not. It's just... in most cases laws just keep honest people honest.

The spark plug for the passage of that law was a massacre in a local cafeteria. All they wanted to do was have lunch. Many people were touched by that event in many ways. I know a girl that lost her father, she was in our Scout troop.

Anyway... getting back to my point, I have to wonder how many more things that start in California are going to end up shaking up the country .... aaaaaaaaaaagain.

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] mummm for the pumpkin on my profile! :)

Tomorrow is Halloween and the city has the "safe trick or treat" downtown beginning at 5:30 PM. I am armed with 2 bags of candy (candy bracelets with ghosts on them) and a bowl of mini Playdoh containers. We don't get a lot of kids out our way anymore, so that should be more than enough for the 6PM-9PM run about. I go outside and sit on the back of the car as it is easier than having to haul the dog away from the door every time the kids go through.

Interesting news on CNN while I was waiting to get my ID card renewed. Seems a few states have now passed laws requiring registered sex offenders to not place any decorations (or turn their porch lights on) that might attract children to their homes. I think they also said they are prohibited from helping at public events that are geared toward children.

A few quotes:

"A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water. "
--- Eleanor Roosevelt, American First Lady

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. "
--- Eleanor Roosevelt, American First Lady

"Anyone that is great at anything does it for their own approval."
-- Gil Grissom   C.S.I.

If those strike a chord, run with it... but one of them, the last, is for my own benefit.

I really should take the time to write down my craft ideas. Things like:
Oven door in a Barbie stove should have an opening in for viewing like some real ones do. Whipstitch the edge of the opening, but slide a piece of clear plastic between front and back door parts then stitch the pieces together.

Thinking about making a few of my own patterns for bookmarks and covers. Maybe incorporate some of the cross-stitch or needlepoint motifs that are already in my books.

Need to remember to scan and print the ten square grid to practice the patterns.

12:45 PM

It is currently the quiet time, as I call it, in my home. The time between when my husband goes off to work and my son gets in from school. It's my time to write and do as I like for a while. Even getting my thoughts into my journal can be trying with certain things going on.

Mediums, Supernatural Events, Religion, and Harry Potter )
3:44 PM

One load of laundry folded, one in the washer, one in the dryer. Dishes swapped out and kitchen is in good shape until after dinner. House is in decent order except the table holding the contents of the bookcase I'm going through. I probably sound nuts for scanning all this stuff, but I need to .. for some reasons. I'm cataloging all the patterns, magazines, etc. Some of this stuff might make good reference pictures for other projects and reviewing pictures and articles on a CD might be easier ... no.. will be easier than hauling boxes around. I had no idea how much shtuff was buried in there. Plastic canvas, cross-stitch, miniatures, dolls, cookbooks... whoa... much treasure to dig through.

Been trying to post a few old stories to [livejournal.com profile] navarra every week or so in hopes that it will jog new stuff. It's sort of working, but not quite as well as I hoped.

The question for today....
Do you ever play over in the back of your mind conversations you wish you had had or that you should have had?
yellowrosetx: (Default)
12:17 PM

I'm trying to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet before I hit the shower and get the day into gear. I'm enjoying the time between when my husband leaves for work and son returns from school. Some part of me greatly misses when they would take a Saturday and head off to Austin for the day to play Warhammer. With Kevin's work schedule, though, it hasn't been possible.

I feel like I should be writing some of the stories I have bottled in my head, but they aren't coming out just yet. My mind is having a difficult time getting kickstarted. I need to sew the pillow for the cat. Her sassy butt is going into the cage sometime today and I'm going to scrub down my office over the weekend. It needs it. I think I will get the litter and stuff ready for the crate and leave it to my son to capture the cat.

I came to the conclusion the other day when I was in Bath and Body Works that I only have one me and if I don't take care of me, no one will. There are things about me that can't be fixed, like my knee or my hip. Those are things I have come to terms with. However, there are plenty of things I can do to improve my life each day like cleaning up and cleaning out crap, making decent meals for my family, remembering to take my vitamins and herb supplements every day, make something, and just do something useful.

Sometimes, feel like I'm letting others around me down, but I only have one child still living at home. I'd rather not make his time here unhappy. Then again.. I think at 17, he'd be happy if I only stuck my nose out of the computer long enough to fix food and leave him to his own devices with the video game machines.

I started keeping this journal for many reasons, one of which is to record things I want to remember. My memory is another thing gone haywire over the years. Ginkgo Biloba helps with that. I often tell people Ginkoba, but that's actually a trade name that pops out first. Ginkgo Biloba can be bought in Wal-mart or other pharmacies over the counter. What it actually does is increase blood flow to the brain. That is helpful, believe me. Here's a bit more on it http://www.kcweb.com/herb/Ginko.htm

I often think Ben Franklin was right. He was right about many things, but air bathing for a bit each day is helpful.

I'm off to attended to a few things... might be back to RP later not sure.

We rang in the new year while watching King Arthur, the director's cut. I enjoyed the movie a great deal and it was nice to spend New Year's Eve with the family. The folks that trashed the movie were apparently expecting the King Arthur legend when this piece took a more realistic view of things.

Some guy on the IDMB boards was going on about being an archaeologist and how the Anglo-Saxons were masters of poetry and other beautiful works. Well, Henry VIII is credited with writing the beautiful "Greensleeves," but he was known as one of history's womanizers. The funny thing is... if he had followed the lead of his counterparts on the continent and took mistresses then a few heads might have remained on shoulders.

What one digs up in cemeteries is usually how people honor their own dead and that of their allies. Enemies were generally treated differently. However, the one valid point that most people miss is unless they, themselves, were there to bear witness to an event, all they can do is read or interpret the accounts of those that were present.

I have already called about the Lazik surgery for Kevin. They now have a payment plan. YAY! 70 bucks a month, I think we can afford it without much trouble.
I wish Tri-care would cover the surgery, but they don't ... yet. My husband has been wearing glasses since he was like 6. I'd love for him to not have to need them anymore. When I got my settlement from SSA, I agreed to pony up $2500 of it toward the surgery, a bit more than half the cost of the surgery, but when he went in, he learned that they weren't doing the program he thought. The money went toward other things.

Seems two library books have gone missing. I called Fort Hood in hopes that we returned them to the wrong library, but no go. I will double check the shelves next time we go to make sure it wasn't put back on the shelf in error. Also need to search the house, just in case.

5:42 PM

Confirmed with Jess on her travel plans. She will be home..

Need to finish two colors on one of the cross-stitch pieces and that includes the backstitching. The only disadvantage to using the magnifying glasses to stittch is that my eyes blur for a while after using them. When I take short breaks in between this doesn't happen, but I got carried away and did a 3-4 hour sitting. Dumb, I know..

Message for a friend )

This also reminds me of a story...

A man during a flood kept saying God will save him. A police car passed before the man's house, the officers try to get him to go saying... "the water is only going to get deeper." The man refused saying God would save him...

He climbed to the roof of his porch and waited, a boat came by and again he was offered a trip to safety and refused because... "God will save me."

The water rose even more... he climbed to the roof of his home. A helicopter came by and for a third time, he was offered transportation to safety. For a third time, he refused again saying that God would save him. However, he drowned not long after refusing the third means of transport...

When he finally got to heaven, he stood before God and asked.. "Why didn't you save me?" God asked him, "I sent a car, a boat, and a helicopter. What more did you want?"

While there isn't exactly supposed to be a moral to the story, there is one. We are often shown pathways away from danger and refuse to take them. God is not coming down from heaven to make himself known until he's ready.. so he makes himself known via choices offered. Man has free will, it's not always a good thing.
