First of all, those of you that have Permanent, Paid, or Plus accounts should have access to voice posting. It's nice to have faces and voices to go with the names. If anyone is game, the voice post number for the US is 1-888-840-6189. If you're outside the US, you can use a mic and the LJ Gizmo software.  Phone post setup info.

Apparently, on Thursday evening or sometime Friday, some insect critter decided that my hands were a tasty feast! Best I can figure is that something got into the lap blanket or small quilt that I toss over my shoulders when it's chilly. They are in the wash. I scratched my hands up something fierce before remembering, GAH, YES, we DO have Caladryl!

I got all of my floral supplies sorted and put into containers. A few things had stems that were too long for the boxes I bought. The longer boxes that would have fit them were too long for the cabinet. Just figures, no?

Put up all the unpainted wooden boxes that I could find. I'm sure more will crop up, but it's a start!

Here's what's been lurking in Candle and/or Soap Supplies: (AKA Confessions of a Crafting Packrat!)

I did manage to eeek out a couple of paragraphs of writing in the last couple of days. Every so often, I get these little story pieces, what a friend refers to fluff, in my head. Most of them end up as unfinished pieces in my story LJ, but better to be writing and getting them down before they are lost, I can always fit them into the bigger picture somewhere along the line

I'm on chapter 36 of Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs. Current audio book is Never Have Your Dog Stuffed by Alan Alda. I tried listening to One on One by Tabitha King, but there was something wrong with the tape. I still have Ella Enchanted and These Happy Golden Years to go. I had Ella Enchanted from the city library, but it kept jamming.

I'm eBay surfing again. It's like looking through the old Sears Wish Book, walking through a giant flea market, or window shopping without even leaving home. I like that. I've been looking into some more soap molds. I'd like to get some of those cool molds to make citrus slices and/or Celtic molds. There are molds available for making soap on a rope. Not sure if they are two piece molds or not.

I need to get my tail in gear around here and start cleaning out more stuff. I think Tom and I have come up with a good idea for Father's Day.

Started a piece for Collie, it's shaping, but not like I really want it to. It's a family piece mostly. I have another character poking at my brain at the moment.

Need to get a couple of calls made today before we go out. The dog needs to go to the groomers and I need to get hold of the IRS and find out why they have yet to send us more info on the payment plan we set up.

Let me begin by saying I have a lovely wreath on my porch post made from the branches of a native New England tree. My friend [livejournal.com profile] celeb_isilme sent it. I need to get a few pictures of it.

I have two candles I did yesterday that need a second pouring. My Candle Creations machine is just awesome! Far less clean up than the old way of making candles. Didn't make many; two tall molds, 1 votive, and 4 container candles. Going to do some soaps today, I think. This depends on whether or not my writing Muse wakes up.

Does anyone know if it's safe to burn candles in canning (or sauce) jars? I know Anchor Hocking has glass jars and such but I like to reuse and recycle when I can, it saves money on the Hobby Lobby runs.

To do list, one of these days... I might use it for more than LJ fixes and additions. One of these days, I should move my pictures off of my AOL FTP and into my LJ scrapbook. It would just be easier to have them in one place. Gotta love someday over the rainbow. I still have at least one picture to restore and one of these days, I'll dig up the still unfinished piece.

I don't say "when I get around to it" anymore. You see... I have one, a round tuit. Sometime in the late 1970's, I received a round wooden token with TUIT painted on it. It's a cute idea meant to stop procrastination. However, no amount of gadgets will stop people from putting things off if they are that determined.

3:45 PM

The repours are done!

4:51 PM

Repours and new votive look pretty good. On to the soap!!

6:30 PM

I have a table full o' stuff.  Trying a few experiments with various shaped for molds. I have plenty of professionally made plastic molds, but I have found that the most interesting shapes are in common everyday containers like TV dinner trays, plastic candy trays,  cookie cutters, and a few other things. I must admit that would not mind adding a set of molds with Celtic symbols on them to my collection.

7:29 PM

Several experiments in progress:
Cube within cube - Dreamsicle
Cookie cuttered soap inside larger of the same cutter.
Candy tray
Mini pie tin, making a soap pie.

11:30 PM

All soap has been poured and is now setting. I made several large bars with goat's milk.

I need to call my parents tonight as it's their 46th wedding anniversary.

I packed the soap and candles that are going to Liz. Still need to pick out something for Chris and paint the bags for Liz. Didn't think to take digital pics of the rose shaped soap. However, I have more in the works and am installing the photo software.

Jess called yesterday. Said she was sorry for being a bad daughter. She remembers Mother's Day and my birthday every year. In fact, all of my kids do. More on Jess later.

My personal goal for NaNoWriMo is 25000 words by the end of the month.

I have a post in mind for the Redcap SL, but the last few times I tried to post it, my computer went nuts. That was the video card. Today we seem to be having minor power blips.  It's not just my computer because the lights blip, too.

Need to make a store run for bread, applesauce and a few other things. Going to do Hamburger Helper or something else fast for dinner might cook when we get back from the store and leave Kevin's food to be warmed in the microwave.

I spent the wee hours of my Saturday making soap and listening to Ramona and Her Mother by Beverly Cleary.

Tomorrow, I'll try to remember to pick up the AAs for my camera and take pictures.

I tried a couple of experiments and am waiting to see if one of them will be a success. I used two of the mold tray that have been sitting in my drawer for a while, cherubs and sea shells. I used vanilla fragrance and Golden Poppy coloring. Seems to have been a great color choice. The shells look like actual shells and the cherubs have a slight golden glow about them.

Soap Making 101 has instructions for a lot of interesting projects. I tried three of them. One is making soap with cookie cutters. Liz was going on and on about little yellow ducks (towels, etc.) for Tyler and so.. I got one duck cookie cutter and one puppy. Came out nice! I used Lavender baby bath to scent them. The second experiment was a mini loaf soap made from the leavings of the rest of the night's projects, it's still in the hardening phase. Third, is the citrus slices soap. The book says to use 2 in. and 3 inch PVC pipe, but I don't have that on hand. I used two round plastic containers. I'll know later if it worked or not.

More later.

I did two sets of soap. One was made in this mold set http://www.candylandcrafts.com/images/F68%20Large%20Rose.gif Turned out lovely! I used Glacial Blue and Sea Foam Green coloring powder. I need to get better control over filling molds, but in two of the three roses, I managed to make the flower part blue and leaf part green in two of the flowers. The third was a bit off, color wise.

I tried doing the embossing technique. One worked, one didn't. Not bad for a first try.

I got a post up for NCU (New Camelot University) and ideas are rolling for ME (Mutual Endeavors). The latter might be off the wall, but who knows, given the content of the story in progress, it might not be so harebrained after all.

Dinner tonight is going to be chicken cooked in a white sauce with potatoes on the side. Kevin says he's trying to stop eating when he's no longer hungry. This is good. I try to make a one piece of meat per person and at least one side dish. Sometimes, I make a few sides. I like red beets, he likes broccoli, and never the twain shall meet on the subjects, so.... when I have the beets, I fix him broccoli. In fact, sounds good, I wonder if I still have beets in my can cupboard. If not, I have plenty of corn.

11:46 PM

Dinner was good. No beets, but I made the broccoli anyway.

I did some more fiddling with my soap stuff. If they come out right, they will be beautiful. Sparkly blue roses and an attempt at embossed soap.  I bought two stamps to use for this project. If they come out right, there will be one with dolphins and another with a lighthouse.

Listening to The Best of the Original Chicken Soup for the Soul.

I'm vegging a bit. I was going to play with my Candle Creations Candle Making Machine, but... there's always a flipping but, isn't there? I opened the box up, all fired up to get ready to have a go and... I discover that the neat gee whiz machine that my dear husband so thoughtfully picked out last Christmas has a few small things missing. Candle wicking... wick holder.. and get this... a rubber stopper.  You read that right, a rubber stopper!! Now, except for the stopper, the parts are easily found in my craft supplies, Wicking.. I have wicking... I have something that I can use for a wick holder, but a rubber stopper?? I tried improvising with some sort of rubber knitting thing... doesn't work. Anyway, I wrote to the company, via their website, to see if dumbass me, who waited 10 months to open the box can still get the missing parts or if I will need to buy them via their order dept.

I bought a three pack set of their candle molds at Hobby Lobby, yesterday, and wanted to try them out. Ah well, I waited this long...

The rubber stopper, BTW, is use to plug the hole in the mold where the wick comes out. Quite practical, I think. I hope I can use my two piece molds on this thing. But doesn't it just figure that once the dang machine is together you can't take it apart?

I'm just hoping that when I get the parts, that the poor thing works!

11:54PM

Took Kevin to Subway for dinner and we got two movies, Unleashed and Kingdom of Heaven.

I did manage to successfully finish a craft project today. The Creative Soap Bar Kit shown on this page, http://soapplace.com/our-products-bath-body-care.html is very cool and much fun! This means I should be able to have handmade cucumber melon scented soap to put in the Christmas packages! YAY!

That's about it for now.

My husband says that I have too many art/craft hobbies. I just wish I could figure out how to make money out of them. I've thought about craft fairs, etc., but my brain blips are getting more frequent. A friend jokingly refers to it as Adult ADD, someone suggested... fibromalgia.. is that how you spell that?

At any rate... I can do cross-stitch, needlepoint on plastic canvas (haven't tried it on fabric), and embroidery. I can make candles, jewelry, doll clothes and other things in small scale. I have done some custom accent pieces to match match wallpaper and stuff.

Made a spiffy lil icon for craft posts, but I'm not sure how it will show up just yet, I suppose I will once this is up. Suze, you might get a chuckle out of it.. it's a fish. The icon is a lil bit fuzzy, but it works.

I have some projects to work on that should prove fun. I'm likely going to have a lot of time on my hands in the near future, so... I will need something to keep me amused and more importantly keep my hands and mind occupied.

There's a ton of soap making supplies, among other things, lurking in the chest of drawers behind my desk. One of these days, I'm going to give that a try.

I never did get the hang of crochet despite my great grandmother trying to teach me. My mother has always been able to draw well, she should have gone to a formal art school. I often joke that the talent for drawing skips a generation, Mom draws well and two of my children do as well. Liz draws animals rather well.

Not much else to say on this subject, moving along.
